This week, we joined the Fighting Fraud and Corruption (FFCL) board, Cifas, Mazars and the Local Government Association for the launch of the Fighting Fraud and Corruption Locally Strategy 2026.

The FFCL is re-releasing the Adult Social Care Fraud Toolkit alongside the new strategy, providing councils with practical support to tackle fraud in this important area.

At the event, Jonathan Dodsworth, Director of Corporate Fraud at Veritau and Chair of the FFCL Working Group, received the Commitment to FFCL Award in recognition of his outstanding commitment, collaboration and contribution to the development of Fighting Fraud and Corruption Locally 2026.

Over the past 12 months, our Schools DPO team has:

🤝 Attended 2 conferences to connect with clients face to face
💻 Launched 7 new training and e-learning modules
📈 Grown our client base to 750+ schools and trusts
🎟️ Resolved 5,445 helpline tickets, averaging 454 every month
📂 Added 6 new portal resources and updated 10 existing resources

🔐 Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2026: Device code phishing

Cyber criminals are increasingly using a tactic known as device code phishing to gain access to email accounts and other online services by exploiting legitimate sign-in processes.

The scam often involves requests to enter a code on a trusted sign-in page, making it appear genuine. However, entering that code could grant criminals access to your account, even if multi-factor authentication is enabled.

⚠️ Watch out for: • Unexpected requests to enter a code to access a document, meeting or service • Messages creating a sense of urgency or pressure to act quickly • Requests originating from unknown individuals or unusual email addresses • Sign-in prompts that appear unrelated to the task you were undertaking at the time

✅ Remember: only enter a device code if you initiated the sign-in yourself and understand why it is needed.

Our Annual Report for 2025/26 is now available. It provides an overview of our achievements, service developments, and continued innovation across the organisation.

Some of our notable achievements this year include:

💷 achieving high levels of savings from counter fraud work

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 integrating the Leicester City Council counter fraud service and transferring six members of staff into Veritau

💡 keeping up-to-date with the new Data Use and Access Act to ensure expert advice and support could be provided

🔄 realigning responsibilities within the internal audit service to improve client relationship management and efficiency

🏆 receiving an apprenticeship employer award in recognition of our commitment to supporting apprentices

⭐ continuing to achieve high client satisfaction and retention rates

🎉 gaining accreditation as the first local authority related Living Pension Employer, and retaining our Living Wage Employer status

❤️ supporting our staff by offering paid leave to donate blood during work time as part of our wider commitment to community wellbeing
