In 2020, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman was selected as the running mate for President Mahama. This was a historic moment, as she became the first woman to be nominated as a vice presidential candidate by a major political party in our country.

“This historic nomination is not a personal achievement but victory for inclusive and participatory democracy, which enhances the credentials of our country and recognizes the towering role women have played over the ages to achieve the progress we have made.”

This selection was an important step forward for our democracy, showing that it is becoming more open and welcoming to women in leadership roles. It recognized the significant contributions women have made to the development of our nation over the years.

During my campaign tour of Greater Accra on Monday, I visited the Mallam, Odorkor, Achimota and Dome markets, among others, in the Ablekuma North, Okaikoi North, and Dome-Kwabenya constituencies. I was struck by the strong calls for change from market women, who voiced their frustrations about the greed, arrogance and state capture experienced over the past seven and a half years.

Additionally, I was impressed by the market women and shoppers' understanding and engagement regarding the NDC’s policy on the Women’s Development Bank, which aims to support women entrepreneurs, make women more financially independent and increase the support of women to their families.

Notably, all three parliamentary candidates in these constituencies are women. I'm proud to be part of a party that truly values every individual, regardless of ethnicity, age, religion, education, or gender.

The NDC is committed to equality and aims to represent all citizens as we work towards building the Ghana we want together.

Join me today in the Tema Central, Tema East, and Tema West constituencies as I continue to share the NDC'S message of hope.
