Tema Technical Institute Marks 62nd Anniversary with Exhibition and Prize-Giving Ceremony

Tema Technical Institute (TTI) has celebrated its 62nd Anniversary alongside its maiden Exhibition Week and Speech and Prize-Giving Day, under the theme “Empowering Technical Minds for a Sustainable Future.”

The Principal, Mr. Armah Nyamekye, traced the institution’s evolution from a modest textile centre established in 1964 to a fully-fledged Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution with 18 departments. He highlighted key achievements of the institute and appealed to government, educators, industry stakeholders, and alumni to support ongoing development projects, particularly the construction of a girls’ dormitory and a student library block.

Delivering an address at the event, the Director-General of the Ghana TVET Service, Dr. Eric Kofi Adzroe, urged facilitators to instill discipline in learners while strengthening practical training. He emphasized the need to nurture innovative minds capable of fixing, creating, and problem-solving, noting that such skills are critical to reducing unemployment and driving national development.

Members of Parliament for Tema West and Tema East, James Enu and Isaac Odamtten, commended the institute for equipping students with practical skills essential for national growth. They called for stronger collaboration between educational institutions and industry, congratulated award recipients, encouraged students to remain focused, and pledged continued support for infrastructure development, training, and youth employment initiatives.

Representing the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ludwig Teye Totimeh described TVET as a critical driver of innovation and sustainable development. He advocated for improved infrastructure, enhanced partnerships, and a shift in societal attitudes to better appreciate technical education, while reaffirming government’s commitment to skills development.

The celebration concluded with colourful cultural and fashion displays, the presentation of awards to outstanding students, and the inauguration of a new classroom block
