The Weight of Words: Correct It While It Lasts.

A few weeks ago, I noticed my younger brother repeatedly responding with “yeah” during our conversations. I initially overlooked it, thinking it was not a big deal. Recently, however, I introduced him to one of my mentors, and to my disappointment, he answered every question with the same casual “yeah.” At that moment, I realized I had missed the chance to correct him earlier. The lesson is simple: small habits, if left unchecked, can grow into embarrassing moments. Correct it while it lasts.

Here’s the problem with responding “yeah”

In Ghanaian culture, it is generally not considered appropriate to respond to an elderly person with “yeah.” Respect is highly valued, especially in speech, and younger people are expected to use more polite and respectful responses such as:
1. “Yes, please”
2. “Yes, Sir/Madam”
3. “Please, yes”

Using “yeah” can come across as casual, dismissive, or even disrespectful, particularly in formal or intergenerational conversations. Among peers, however, “yeah” is common and acceptable.

On 2nd September, some members of the Knights of St. John International & Ladies Auxiliary, UG made a journey to Togo to mourn with a lovely and a very dedicated member of the Order, whose dad is at rest with his Maker.

As clearly stated in our opening ode, “…Shoulder to shoulder, Face the roughest weather…” To wit, regardless of the situation, we will always be there for one another.

We had a very successful trip and glory to God for such a blessing.

The law of association states that you become like those with whom you spend time with.

In other words, your choice of a mate and friends has much or more influence on your success and happiness in life.

Remember that you’re the master of your fate and the captain of your soul.

May the year be good to us.

Hon. Clement Apaak, the MP for the Builsa South Constituency is doing tremendously well in the aspect of education. Not long ago, he provided about 100 chairs to the Uwasi Primary School, where furniture was in grave deficit.

Last week Wednesday, I passed by the District Education Office and to my ultimate surprise, a lot of work was being done on the furniture. Having a good go at the new improvement, I was told the office of the MP was/is behind it.

It is already in the public that many basic schools in Builsa South encounter the same problem of furniture deficit. It saddened my heart when I visited the Kanjarga Junior High School (one of the most populated schools in the district), and the Fumbisi Preparatory Primary school, among others, and saw how the classrooms were crowded. Most, if not all, students were sitting on the floor to learn.

Where as this is not directly in his domain, he is doing immensely well in the provision of furniture for the schools. However, I am of the view that he could do better if he makes good use of his powers on the Education Committee of Parliament to compel those who are directly responsible to do their jobs. They must be called to answer questions at Parliament.

As someone very passionate about education in the district, I wish to applaud the office of the MP for taking such a step. The constituency needs such interventions to feed the future of our educational system and for students' welfare, as well.

Also, it is a matter of common knowledge that one’s working environment urges him or her to put in much effort; thus, one will barely stay away from work when he or she has a very good, conducive working environment. Take a visit to the Builsa South District Education Directorate and you will feel pity for those who work there. There is absolutely nothing inside of those offices, broken roof and a whole lot. It is so heartbreaking and nothing to write home about. And I ask myself, whose responsibility is it to furnish the Education Directorate with all the necessary equipment they need to properly work towards promoting education in the district? The office of the Minister of Education, the office of the DCE and all other offices directly responsible must be called to answer questions.

I have no scintilla of doubt that, given your wealth of diligence and commitment to work, you will do this to the admiration of all people—both in and out of your constituency.

You are doing well in the area of education, Hon. Clement Apaak.
