GIS RECRUITMENT 2021

OBJECTIVES OF THE SERVICE

a) To ensure the effective administration and management of migration in the country; and
b) Contribute to national security.

FUNCTIONS OF THE SERVICE

The Service shall;
a) Subject to existing laws, examine travel document of persons entering or leaving the country through the borders;
b) Ensure the application and enforcement of laws relating to the immigration and employment of non-Ghanaians in the country;
c) Advise on and implement international co-operation agreements with other countries and international organisations on matters relating to migration;
d) Manage and patrol the borders of the country;
e) Through the Comptroller – General or the dully authorized representative of the Comptroller – General issue visas for entry into the country and permits for residence or work in the country; and
f) perform any other functions as required by law

The Comptroller – General shall act in consultation with the Minister in the performance of the function specified in (1)(e).

IMMIGRATION BOSS PROMOTES 18 OFFICERS FOR EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE

18 senior and junior Officers of the Immigration Service have been promoted to their respective next ranks by Management of the Service, and were decorated by the Comptroller- General of Immigration at a ceremony held at the National Headquarters today.

This was done in acknowledgement of their bravery, integrity and commitment to duty.

Six from the Honuta Border Post were awarded for intercepting 1,550 slaps of suspected ma*****na which were being smuggled through Togo to Nigeria.

Eight from the Wli Border Post in a similar operation intercepted 680 slaps of substance suspected to be ma*****na being smuggled to Togo.

Another four showed great commitment to duty and patriotism by remaining at and securing their duty posts during a heavy downpour without any protective clothing.

The Officers have been promoted to Chief Superintendent, Deputy Superintendents, Senior Inspector, Inspectors Assistant Inspector and Assistant Immigration Control Officers - Grade II respectively.

The British Home Secretary, Priti Sushil Patel, has handed over a British Government-funded Task Force Facility to the Ghana Immigration Service to help combat organised immigration crimes and document fraud on 2nd June, 2021. In attendance at the commissioning of the GITF was the British High Commissioner, H.E Ian Walker, the Minister for the Interior, Mr Ambrose Dery, the Chief Director at the Interior Ministry, Mrs Adelaide Annor Kumi, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr. Kwame Asuah-Takyi and the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Operations, Mr Laud Akwasi Affrifah.
