The Municipal Assembly shall exercise deliberative, legislative and executive functions of the Assembly.

The Ga North Municipal Assembly was carved out of the then Ga West Municipal Assembly on 16th November 2017 by Legislative Instrument (LI) 2314 and was officially inaugurated on 15th march 2018. The Ga North Municipal is endowed with rich human and natural resources stretching from great pool of underground water and precious stones, labour force, rich soil for crop production, rivers and streams,

*LAUNCHING OF OPERATION CLEAN YOUR FRONTAGE*

The Ga North Municipal Assembly joined it's counterparts within Greater Accra Region to Launch the "Operation Clean Your Frontage" campaign on Tuesday, 1st February, 2022 as directed by the Greater Accra Regional Minister by creating Sanitation Awareness in a float through the principal streets in the Municipality. The campaign involved all the Departments, Units and Agencies of the Assembly, school children from some selected schools within the Municipality and Hon. Assembly Members of the various electoral areas. The campaign was led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Simons Sekyim, the Municipal Coordinating Director Alhaji Haruna Salam, accompanied by Municipal Security Personnels and coverage by some media houses.
The exercise was very very successful.

*OFANKOR ROUNDABOUT TRADERS AND HAWKERS MOVED TO OCCUPY MARKET*

31st January 2022 is here as was agreed upon by the Ga North Municipal Assembly and the leadership of the Association of traders and hawkers of the Ofankor roundabout.
At exactly 3:30AM the exercise began, the MCE for Ga North, Hon. Simons Sekyim, the Municipal Coordinating Director Alhaji Haruna Salam, Senior staff, Assembly members, Security Personnels, City guards of the Assembly, NADMO, Zoomlion and the Press were all present to ensured a successful exercise.
All structures belonging to some traders and hawkers at the roundabout have been cleared by the Assembly to make way for free flow of predestrans and traffic.
In a media interview with the Hon. MCE, he stated that series of engagements have taken place to make sure traders and hawkers are well informed about their movement to the Ofankor main market. He added that concerns that were raised during the engagements by traders have all been addressed by the Assembly.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Simons Sekyim expressed his excitement to the media of how the operations was smooth and successful
The Hon. MCE, again indicated that, the way forward for the Assembly is to fence the under pass and used the place for car park for individuals and workers who will be late for work to park there and join a public transport and pick their vehicles after close of work.
The Hon. Simons Sekyim was very optimistic and of the view that no trader or hawker will come there to sell again.
This happened today, 31st January, 2022 at the Ofankor roundabout.

*CONSULTATIVE MEETING WITH TRADERS /HAWKERS OF OFANKOR MARKET*

The MCE, Hon. Simons Sekyim of Ga North, Management of the Assembly, Hon. Assembly members and the Press, with massive attentance engaged with the traders and hawkers of the Ofankor roundabout, to ensure that by 31st January 2022, traders would start to move to the Ofankor main market.
In a brief presentation of the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Simons Sekyim, he stated key consultative concerns that he would be bringing on board, to ensure life in the market is conducive for the traders.
Before the MCE proceeds with the day 's activity, he asked for a minute silence to be observed for his predecessor, the late Hon. Gertrude Ankrah and continued with the update of relocation plan.
The following concerns were raised in the preparations towards the receive of the traders;
- Health screening for traders.
- Introduction of loans to traders who are part of the market Association
- For easy collection of refuses, a garage truck will be placed close the toilet for the traders and environment health Officers would be responsible for it disposal.
- Renovations of wash room and toilet.
- Security will be provided in the market.
- Taxi roundabout will also be created for traders and buyers for easy movement.
- Space will also be created to receive foodstuffs and goods from other markets.
- A durbar of chiefs, management of the Assembly and other stakeholders to set up Ofankor Market Days.
- Containers to store the food stuffs of traders would be provided.
- The Ofankor roundabout will be fence after the decongestion exercise, and will be used for car Park.
- Light will be provided in the market
Some few emphasis on the MCE submission by by the traders , were about their security, where to store their goods, loans to support business and whether containers to store the food stuffs are for free or with a fee.
The consultative program was very successful, participatory and the traders agreed with the Hon. MCE to move the market before or by 31st January,2022. The engagement took place at the Ofankor main market on the 25th of January,2022.

*INSPECTION OF OFANKOR MARKET*

After a Management meeting today, 19th of January, 2022 the MCE, Hon. Simons Sekyim requested that all Heads should get themselves in readiness to go for an inspection at the Ofankor market to see how far the market Committee have gone with the preparations for the Assembly to move the traders and if possible to invite traders and hawkers for another meeting before the D day.
The team arrived at market and moved round the whole market to make sure no stone is left unturned
In a brief discussion, a date was set to meet with traders and hawkers on 25th of January, 2022 at the Ofankor market.

*MY FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL*

Hon. Simons Sekyim of Ga North Municipal Assembly were accompanied by the Education Director, Mrs. Esther Jones - Safo and team from her department, Senior staff of Management and the press, on the 18th of January 2022 visited some selected schools in Municipality to observed *My First Day At School*. Schools included Afiaman Community M/A, Abensu Community M/A, Usman Bun Afa, St. Peters Anglican, Our Lady of Assumption and St. Anthony Catholic School.
In a brief speech, the Hon. MCE advised the parents to give their wards the best gift of life that is prayer and education, as well entreat new entrance that, once they have decided to come to school , they should make up their minds to stay in school without running away from school , he indicated that they should cry to worry parents to bring them to school and learn hard to become future professionals.
He stated again that, it's the responsibility of the Community to protect the school's property for future generations.
The Hon. MCE thanked the Hon. MP for Trobu Constituency for his support to him and the people of Ga North and also thanked the teachers for their hard work, love and care to the children.

*STAKEHOLDERS ENGAGEMENT HELD ON THE 13TH JANUARY,2022*

The Municipal Chief Executive of Ga North Hon. Simons Sekyim, engaged political parties, some Assembly members and management of the Assembly on the relocation of the traders at the Ofankor round about to the Ofankor main market by 31st January, 2022.
In a brief meeting, the gathering all agreed to the plans, suggestions, observations and ideas of the MCE, and indicated that it was a laudable decision and also their readiness to help to keep the roundabout clear and safe, since it is the district Capital of Municipal Assembly as indicated in the L I 2015.
The meeting was held at the Assembly's Conference Room.

The Ga North Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Simons Sekyim ended his tour on the 12th of January, 2022 by Visiting the Ghana Water Company at Amasaman, to familiarize as well as introduce himself to the company, since the company is one of the major stakeholder that collaborated to supply water to some of the areas in the Ga North Municipality.
The company raised a challenge of flow of water to the areas. The assistant manager of the company who received the team mentioned that, the days they open taps to serve water in Municipality, are Thursday, Sunday and Monday respectively.
The Hon.MCE was accompanied by Senior staff of the Assembly. Since the assumption of duty by the Municipal Chief Executive at office in December 2021 , so much have already been done in less than a month. This shows his dedication to work and move the development agenda beyond.

*FAMILIARIZATION TOUR CONTINUED*

Today, the 11th of January 2022, the MCE of Ga North Hon. Simons Sekyim, saw the need to continue with his familiarization tour to some other key stakeholders within the Municipality, to introduce himself and to create a good working relationship with the people and the environment he is coming to work with.
The Municipal Chief Executive and some Senior Staff of the Assembly paid a working visit to ECG both Achimota and Nsawam District Offices. These were major concerns raised,
1. Where to mount ECG poles in the Municipality.
2. People asking ECG to relocate its poles and transformers from their areas.
3. Replacing 1800 faulty Meters in the area
4. Seeking the Assembly's assistance to protect ECG poles and meters in the area.
In the interaction with the Nsawam District Manger, the team was informed that, in some few months to come, they would be a creation of a new District office for Amasaman, to separate them from Nsawam District.
The team took a tour around both ECG offices and took a group photograph as well.
After everything the team returned to the Assembly to continue with other Assignments.

*MCE ENGAGEMENT WITH TRANSPORT OPERATORS*

On Day 6, the MCE for Ga North, Hon. Simons Sekyim as part of his Familiarization tour paid a working visit to the Ofankor Ayalolo bus station to have an interactive session with the various Transport Unions within the Municipality, who were all gathered at the Ayalolo bus station.
Since the assumption of duty by the Municipal Chief Executive in few weeks ago, he deem it necessary to a pay visit to all the stakeholders who he will be working with, and transport operators were not left out.
Hon. Simons Sekyim, introduced himself by stating that, not quite long when the president nominated him to come and lead the people of Ga North.
The Hon. MCE informed the taxi drivers and Transport operators about roads works given to (19) contractors Municipal wide to put the roads to motorable use.
Concerns raised by the operators, were most all about how roads network in the Municipality are bad, of which transport operators are calling on the Hon. MCE and management of the Assembly to come their aid to help ease traffic situation on roads. A member raised a concern about the Assembly constructing a urinary pit for taxi drivers of which it can also serve as a source of Revenue to the Assembly.They also complain about how water disturb Ofankor roundabout whenever it rains, Pokuase junction needs road works, trotro parking unlawfully should be made to face the law and bio gas which are been linked to gutters.
Concerns raised by the operators were all responded to by the Hon. MCE to their satisfactory. The team then ended the session with the operators and proceed to the Pokuase interchange to monitor illegal activities and there after continued to the office.
