Not long ago, we all, over 18 years and of sound mind went to the polls to vote for someone we believed could lead the country Ghana and fortunately for us all, Ghana has emerged victorious. Thanks to Ghana.
John Dramani Mahama has been elected President, inaugurated, and commenced his duties as President of the Republic of Ghana.

Allegations abound concerning state lands, public funds, businesses, cars, and houses that were meant to belong to the state but purportedly ended up in the possession of various individuals, groups, and families over the past few years. After President Mahama's inauguration, he formed a committee called Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL), chaired by Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa, to probe these allegations and produce a report.

Even though not every voter cast their vote for a single party or individual, it is important to appreciate that their actions were guided by a common goal, which is the betterment of our great nation, Ghana.

As citizens, we offer our prayers and support to the committee members, entrusting them with our ideas, strength, and spirit to initiate, conclude, and present their findings in a fair, transparent, and impartial manner, untainted by hatred, sympathy, favouritism, or subsequent allegations of corruption, bribery, or concealment of truths, which may undermine the credibility of the report.

Moreover, in cases where the reports result in a guilty verdict and the retrieval of state properties is warranted, foolproof guarantees must be established to prevent any retrieved properties from being misappropriated by committee members, their affiliates, or foreign interests, ensuring instead that they are returned to the state, their legitimate proprietor. Thanks.

Between 2004 and 2008, under the leadership of Former President J.A. Kufuor, Ghana experienced a severe power outage, prompting the transportation of clergy to the Akosombo Dam to pray for miraculous solutions rather than exploring technical expertise or innovations to address the underlying issues..
When the NDC came into power in 2009 under the leadership of the late Prof. J.E.A. Mills, the entrenched problem remained and grew; unfortunately, his passing and that of ex-President J.D. Mahama followed in 2012..

Ghanaians attributed the intensified power outage to John Dramani Mahama's leadership, as if it was a direct result of his tenure. The term DUMSOR originated during his presidency, and he was even nicknamed Dumsor Hene, meaning king of Dumsor. The former president bore the brunt of criticism for the outage's far-reaching impacts on individuals and the nation.

President Mahama demonstrated leadership by tackling the dumsor crisis through strategic investments in dams, power plants, and generators, effectively increasing existing capacity. His tenure saw the end of dumsor in 2016, a testament to his vision. Although his departure was influenced by prior frustrations, we acknowledge his key role in resolving this entrenched issue and commend his wise and decisive actions.

The effects of legal and illegal mining (Galamsey) on our country's environment are evident, with communities facing water scarcity, farmland destruction, and forest depletion, leaving an alarming ecological footprint.

Accusations abound that government officials have a stake in galamsey, appearing to combat illicit mining while safeguarding their own sites with armed security, and targetedly destroying tools and equipment belonging to other mining operators.

Some use excavators to destroy the land which is being seized, instead of using those same excavators to backfill the pits and excavated land, the authorities will rather burn them leaving the land uncovered due to a lack of knowledge.

As we approach the election, I wish to put this on record. If there is a change in government, especially to a different party, the outgoing administration should not attribute current challenges to the incoming government, implying they began under their watch. We are aware of when Dumsor commenced and did not blame it on anyone; similarly, Galamsey should not be blamed on the incoming government. A reminder for those who forget easily..

Hmm.

While we are resisting it, others are advocating for it.

This indicates a significant departure from established norms.

As a Minister and Member of Parliament, I thought your public statements would provide guidance to help colleagues steer their constituents away from illegal mining.
