GNFS SAVES THREE-BEDROOM HOUSE IN BREMAN ESSIAM
At 0911hrs on Monday, 4th May, Breman Essiam Fire Station responded to a fire at Breman Essiam behind Roman School. The crew found one room ablaze in a four-bedroom house and tactically contained the fire to prevent spread.
One bedroom and personal belongings were destroyed, but three bedrooms, a hall, a washing machine, and a freezer were salvaged. No casualties were recorded. Investigations are ongoing.

GNFS CLIMAXES IFFD 2026 WITH MEDIA DRIVE IN SAVANNAH REGION
The Savannah Regional Command used IFFD Day 4 to flood the regional airwaves with fire safety awareness messages. The campaign urged citizens to partner with firefighters to reduce preventable fires and road accidents.
Stakeholders were encouraged to educate subordinates on assault-free conduct toward firefighters, stressing that attacks infringe on their fundamental rights. The day also honored fallen heroes and heroines for their sacrifices.

GNFS NORTHERN REGION CLIMAXES IFFD 2026 CELEBRATION
The Northern Regional Command climaxed its week-long IFFD 2026 celebration with a ceremony attended by the Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf Mburidiba and heads of sister security services.
Activities included wreath-laying for fallen heroes, a minute of siren blowing at 12 noon, and citation presentations to distinguished officers. Local media houses N-TV, Sagani TV, Zaa TV, Dagbon FM, Zangali Radio, and Fiila FM also received citations for their support to GNFS projects.

EASTERN REGION HONOURS FIREFIGHTERS WITH AWARDS ON IFFD
The Ghana National Fire Service Eastern Regional Command marked International Firefighters’ Day with a solemn ceremony in Koforidua, celebrating the dedication and sacrifices of firefighters.
A speech delivered by DO I Columban Kwesi Hughes, on behalf of the Regional Fire Officer ACFO II Emmanuel Ofori Asamoah, commended personnel for their commitment, while the public was urged to respect firefighters, avoid attacks, and keep access routes clear during emergencies.
Two officers, ADO I Serwaah-Kyere Patience of Koforidua Metropolitan fire station won best female firefighter of the year while SubO Oteng Williams of Suhum fire station won best male firefighter of the year.
The ceremony concluded with a symbolic tribute to fallen firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty.

GNFS RESPONDS TO FIRE AT GBC DTT SITE IN SUNYANI
Ghana National Fire Service responded to fire at Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) facility at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation premises in Sunyani.
Firefighters from Nsoatre responded swiftly to contain the blaze, with additional support from the Sunyani Municipal fire team. The fire was successfully brought under control and later extinguished.
Cause of fire is currently under investigation.

GNFS ASHANTI REGIONAL COMMAND HOLDS MARKET QUIZ AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH TO MARK IFFD
The Ghana National Fire Service Ashanti Regional Command marked Day 4 of International Firefighters’ Day with the grand finale of an inter-market quiz aimed at promoting fire safety awareness.
Traders from Breman, Tafo, Kejetia, and Mamponteng markets showcased strong knowledge of fire prevention and emergency response, with Tafo Market emerging winners. The Regional Fire Officer, ACFO I Peter Tetteh, emphasised the importance of educating traders to reduce market fire incidents, while officials also urged the public to support firefighters and avoid attacks on emergency personnel.
In addition, the Boamang Fire Command carried out extensive community outreach in Kyekyewere, engaging residents through market, shop-to-shop, house-to-house, and transport station education on fire prevention, electrical and gas safety, and early reporting of incidents.
The combined activities reinforced the message that fire safety is a shared responsibility.

The firefighters have successfully brought the situation under control, with no casualties recorded.

GNFS UPPER EAST REGIONAL EDUCATION TEAM EMBARKS ON RADIO SENSITIZATION ON FIRE SERVICE OPERATIONS
The Ghana National Fire Service Upper East Regional Education Team conducted a radio sensitisation campaign across multiple stations to educate the public on fire service operations.
The team addressed issues such as prank calls, misconceptions about fire engines lacking water, and the dangers of attacking firefighters and their equipment.
The initiative aims to improve public awareness, encourage cooperation, and strengthen relations between the Fire Service and the community.

WESTERN REGION HOLDS IFFD TOUR AND RADIO SENSITIZATION
The Western Regional Headquarters and Sekondi Metro Fire Station hosted an educational tour for ⁷families and Twin City FM kids on 2nd May, led by SUBO Abraham Esso, visitors were educated on the appliances, sliding pole drills, and also visited the Ambulance Service unit. The team dispelled the ‘no water’ myth and warned against prank calls.
On 30th April, the Deputy PRO ADOI Afua Pongo led a BIG FM 96.7 sensitization on the IFFD theme: “An attack on firefighters is an attack on public safety: End assaults and protect the firefighter.” She cited poor terrain, aged appliances, and rising attacks on personnel, urging the public to focus on fire prevention and protect firefighters who are “first in” and “last out.”
