🇪🇸⛏️🇬🇭 Following the regional discussions held in Kumasi and Takoradi, the Embassy of Spain in Ghana has given its support to the national Dialogue Workshop on the Safety and Security Ecosystem of Illegal Mining in Ghana, organised by The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Accra Ghana in Accra last week.

These workshops have brought together important stakeholders to discuss the drivers and consequences of illegal mining across Ghana 📣, while creating an inclusive space for dialogue and community-driven approaches to security.

And, why does this matter to Spain? 🤔 For us, cooperation and security go hand in hand, and supporting efforts to address illegal mining is an important contribution to broader stability in the Sahel and the Gulf of Guinea 🤝. Spain and Ghana are proud to work together towards these shared goals, promoting peace, institutional resilience and sustainable development.

We thank the KAPITC for its strong commitment to this cause and hope this initiative will contribute to Ghana’s already existing efforts in the fight against galamsey.

🇪🇸⚓🇬🇭 The Ambassador of Spain visited the Spanish Navy patrol vessel BAM Furor (P-46) during its stop in Sekondi, as part of the EU Coordinated Maritime Presence in the Gulf of Guinea.

The vessel’s deployment in the Gulf of Guinea contributes to enhancing maritime security and regional cooperation 🤝 in the fight against illicit trafficking.

During its visit, the ship also delivered 300 sports kits donated by the Fundación Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña to Fafali, a Ghanaian foundation empowering children and young people through football and athletics programmes. ⚽🏃‍♂️

We wrapped up our time in Tamale with a concert directed by the Spanish guitarist , with Samuel Dowaana Mensa and the Tamale Youth Choir.

The program brought together Spanish Renaissance pieced and the choir’s own songs, creating a beautiful exchange of musical traditions and cultures. We were especially impressed by the choir’s dedication and talent in learning and performing in Spanish.

A huge thank you to all the members of the choir, Samuel, and Rafael for making this evening so memorable. A wonderful way to end our stay, celebrating collaboration and connection through music.

Last week, we spent several days in the Northern Region to experience its reality first hand.

We started our journey by visiting the farms where supported the empowerment of women in environmental sustainability. We were warmly welcomed by the community and the chief of Kulunkpegu, together with the MP for the Mion district, the Executive Director of the District and their team.

We also had the chance to meet with the Regional Minister and visit the Ghana Immigration Service Migration Information Centre in Tamale, funded by Spain.

Last but not least, we had the chance of hearing the views of the youth on the environmental crisis at the CORD Youth Summit.

It was a tryly inspiring trip, giving us the opportunity to exchange ideas with local leaders, learn about ongoing initiatives, and better understand the challenges and opportunities in the region.
