Culture Wednesday!!!!

Adinkra are visual symbols originating from the Gyaman people of Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, traditionally used on royal clothing for ceremonies. Today, they appear in logos, furniture, and architecture, reflecting their cultural significance. These symbols convey deep meanings, often linked to Akan proverbs.

The Adinkra symbol Sankofa, meaning "go back and get it," is represented by a bird with its head turned backward while its feet face forward, carrying a precious egg, or a stylized heart, and embodies the importance of learning from the past to build a better future.

What's your favourite symbol and why?

Tuo Zaafi, popularly known as TZ, is a beloved dish from Northern Ghana that has made its way into kitchens across the country. Made from maize or millet flour, this soft, smooth swallow pairs perfectly with soups like Ayoyo (jute leaves soup) or groundnut soup, often enriched with meat, fish, or wele (cow skin). Unlike banku or fufu, Tuo Zaafi has a lighter, softer texture, making it easy to eat and digest.
