Ghana’s Climate Negotiators Pay Courtesy Call on World Bank Ahead of COP31

In a major effort to mobilize strategic support and mobilize global climate finance, Ghana’s Roster of Experts on Climate Negotiations paid an official courtesy call on the leadership of the World Bank on October 8, 2026. The high-level engagement served as a platform to present Ghana’s National COP31 Roadmap, brief bank executives on the outcomes of the UNFCCC SB64 sessions, and explore enhanced technical and financial collaboration ahead of the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31).
As climate impacts pose growing risks to West Africa's economic stability, agriculture, and infrastructure, the meeting underscored Ghana’s commitment to securing strong, evidence-based support for its national adaptation and mitigation priorities.
During the bilateral briefing, the negotiating team introduced the National Roster of Experts on Climate Negotiations, a specialized framework established by the Environmental Protection Authority under the guidance and leadership of Prof. Nama Ama Browne Klutse in 2025 to enhance coordination, maintain institutional memory, strengthen technical capacity, and ensure Ghana’s positions at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) reflect practical economic realities.
The delegation highlighted the World Bank's critical role as a key development partner, advocating for expanded technical assistance and capital deployment in strategic areas.
The negotiators formally presented a copy of the Reports from Ghana’s participation at SB64, detailing outcomes from the recent UNFCCC Subsidiary Body sessions in Bonn and outlining critical gaps where international support is needed.
