COAS CUTS SOD FOR CONSTRUCTION OF MULTIPURPOSE MESS AT ARMY PEACE OPERATIONS TRAINING SCHOOL
The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General (Maj Gen) Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, has cut sod for the construction of a 1,000-seat Multipurpose Mess at the Army Peace Operations Training School (APOTS) in Bundase, pledging a seed money of one hundred thousand Ghana cedis (GH₵100,000) to aid in its completion.
The sod cutting was held during the visit of the COAS to personnel of UNIFIL GHANBATT 91, on completion of their pre-deployment concentration and training at the Battle Training Camp, Bundase on Thursday, 8 August 2024.
Also, as part of the visit, the COAS commissioned a newly renovated ablution unit, a project executed by GHANBATT 91, and inspected a 100-bed accommodation facility, also renovated by the Army Peace Operations Training School (APOTS) to support trainees at the camp.
The COAS also witnessed some simulation exercises during which troops demonstrated their preparedness to deal with any situation likely to be encountered when deployed in the mission area.
At a durbar with troops, Maj Gen Onwona shared his vision for the Ghana Army and emphasised ongoing efforts to improve operational efficiency. He also stressed the need for enhanced collaboration with other security services as well as the media.
Maj Gen Onwona applauded troops for their display of commitment and motivation and charged them to always maintain a high level of readiness and professionalism.
The COAS was accompanied by some Principal Staff Officers from the Army Headquarters.

GAF TO ESTABLISH KINTAMPO BARRACKS
The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, on Friday, 28 June 2024 embarked on an operational visit to Kintampo to assess the infrastructure needs for establishing and operationalizing a military barracks in the area.
The Omanhene of Kintampo, Nana Kwaku Dankwa III, and his sub-chiefs warmly welcomed COAS and his team of technocrats, expressing their elation for the visit. Nana Dankwa revealed that they had protected a 4,889-acre military land to revive and expand an old, unused base in Kintampo into a modern camp.
The Omanhene emphasized that a military barracks in Kintampo would provide a secure environment for socioeconomic growth and development in the area.
Major General Onwona, stated that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) had conceived the idea of a Kintampo barracks in 2010, and with the strategic expansion drive of GAF, the time is ripe for this plan to materialize. He assured the Omanhene and sub-chiefs that the necessary steps would be taken to expedite the establishment of the barracks.
The COAS was accompanied by the Deputy Chief of Staff (Logistics), R/Adm S Agyenim-Boateng, Director General (Logistics), Brig Gen K*K Kumi, Deputy Chief Staff Officer (Operations and Training), Army Headquarters, Brig Gen KD Hagan, and Principal Staff Officers from the General Headquarters and the Army Headquarters.

DEPLOYMENT OF A PLATOON IN KARAGA
The General Officer Commanding Northern Command, Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei visited the Karaga Military Detachment following the task from the Military High Command to deploy a Platoon in Karaga. The GOC also took the opportunity to pay a courtesy call on the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Karaga, Hon Iddrisu Mohammed Saani on 29 April 2024.
In a meeting with the DCE and some DISEC members, the GOC discussed pending security issues and how best to restore law and order in the area. The DCE and DISEC members were happy about the increase in troops strength in Karaga and pledged their support. He also mentioned that plans were underway to provide adequate housing facilities for the additional troops.
The GOC also visited troops deployed in Karaga and in an interaction with them, he commended them for their quick response to deploy, dedication to duty and hard work towards maintaining the peace and stability in Karaga and its environs. He also informed troops that the purpose of the increase in strength of personnel in the town was to ensure that there were sufficient troops to respond quickly to security challenges that may arise following the incidents that have occurred over the period.
He further went on to admonish troops deployed at the Chief's Palace and personnel who patrol within the town to be extra vigilant and security conscious at all time in order to contribute their quota to the peace in the town.
