The Guan Constituency Elections Committee (GCEC) has cleared Madam Janet Adade to contest the New Patriotic Party’s Constituency Chairmanship election after intensive deliberations, despite acknowledging what it described as “legal and constitutional intricacies” surrounding her nomination.
In a communiqué issued on Friday following a meeting at the Likpe Bakwa Guest House, the Committee announced that Madam Adade had been successfully cleared and assigned the number three position on the ballot for the upcoming constituency elections.
According to the Committee, the decision followed a thorough review and extensive deliberations on her nomination, which had been held in abeyance after the vetting process.
Explaining the basis for its decision, the GCEC stated that although it had observed certain legal and constitutional issues relating to the nomination, it unanimously resolved to uphold Madam Adade’s clearance “primarily for the sake of fostering peace, strengthening unity, and ensuring the seamless progression of the party’s ongoing restructuring process within the Guan Constituency.”
The Committee said it believed the decision best served the collective interest of the party and its long-term electoral prospects.
The communiqué also announced that any aspirant or party member dissatisfied with the decision is entitled to petition the appropriate Appeals Committee in accordance with the party’s constitution and national guidelines.
Meanwhile, information reaching *The Digest* indicates that some petitioners are preparing to invoke that appeals process. Sources close to the group say they intend to challenge the Committee’s decision, arguing that constitutional and procedural requirements should not be subordinated to considerations of political expediency, regardless of the objective of promoting party unity.
The Committee, however, has appealed to all aspirants and their supporters to accept the decision in good faith, avoid divisive rhetoric and personal attacks, and work together towards the party’s preparations for the 2026 General Election.
The GCEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair and transparent constituency elections and expressed confidence that the process would strengthen the party in the Guan Constituency.
The Digest understands that an appeal, if formally lodged, is expected to test the extent to which party committees may rely on considerations of peace and unity where constitutional questions have been identified.
