The Speaker of Parliament has officially opened a training programme on integrity and related topics for staff of the Parliamentary Service.
The programme, organized by the Legal and Governance Services Office, the Parliamentary Training Institute (PTI), and the Human Resource Department, is aimed at promoting integrity, ethical conduct, accountability, and professionalism within the Parliamentary Service.
In his remarks the Rt.Hon. Speaker, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, emphasised that integrity remains one of the most valuable qualities in public service. He described it as the strongest antidote to corruption and the foundation upon which public trust is built. He noted that public confidence is not automatic but must be earned through ethical behavior and responsible actions.
He encouraged all staff members to actively participate in the training and apply the knowledge gained in their daily duties and further urged them to contribute to building a workplace culture rooted in ethics, accountability, and professionalism.
The Clerk to Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Ahuman Djietror underscored the importance of integrity and professional conduct in the service. He explained that the training programme was carefully designed by the Legal and Governance Division under the guidance of the Speaker in response to the Corruption Risk Mitigation Plan adopted in 2024.
“It seeks to enhance awareness and understanding of the code of conduct of public officers in grievance holding processing of services” he stated.
He described Parliament as a bastion of democracy that must uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability, reminding staff that public service is a sacrifice rather than a profit-making venture and urging them to serve with sincerity and dedication.

The Parliamentary Caucus on Population and Development held a workshop to bring its members on issues on Pensions, old age, and retirement. It has been largely observed that the percentage of the aged in society is growing putting pressure on the Pension scheme in Ghana. There are varied institutions established to ensure that the aged and pensioners are properly looked after. Yet due to the limited number of contributors and the growing number of personers it may become difficult to manage our Pensions in the future.

The following topics were discussed:
1. Legal and policy framework on Pensions
2. Retirement planning and financial literacy
3. Ageing population and socio-economic implications
4. Role of Parliament in strengthening pension schemes
5. Social protection systems for the elderly and
6. Gender dimensions of retirement and ageing and
7. Impact of population ageing on Ghana’s Pensions scheme and sustainability.
Members were made to appreciate the current pressures on Pensions and urged to play oversight roles that will make our Pensions schemes viable while ensuring sustainability, adequacy of benefits, inclusiveness and intergenerational equity.
