【Signing Ceremony of the Grant Assistance for the Grass-Roots Human Security Projects / 草の根・人間の安全保障無償資金協力署名式】
On 27 February 2026, the Ambassador YOSHIMOTO exchanged USD 116,320 grant contract between Mr. Dauda Koroma of The Needy Today in Freetown. Through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGHSP), the Government of Japan will fund the construction of a six-classroom primary school building and water and sanitation facilities in Makondo Village, Karene District. Once completed, the new school will provide a cleaner and safer learning environment for 300 students and increase capacity to enroll more children from surrounding villages.
2026年2月27日、フリータウンにおいて、義本大使は、ザ・ニィーディー・トゥデイのダウダ・コロマ氏との間で、草の根・人間の安全保障無償資金協力(GGHSP)に係る贈与契約書(USD 116,320)の交換を行いました。今後、カレネ県マコンド村において、6教室の小学校校舎および給水・衛生施設の整備を実施します。事業完了後は、300名の児童に衛生的で安全な学習環境を提供するとともに、周辺地域からの児童の受け入れ拡大が見込まれます。

The scholarship program is for teachers who wish to study in Japan as Teacher Training Students and who have worked at primary/secondary educational institutions or teacher training schools for five or more years.

On December 3, 2025, 14:00-15:00, the 2nd Webinar on the International Group of Eminent Persons for a World without Nuclear Weapons (IGEP) will be held. Since its establishment in 2022, the IGEP has offered a forum for its 15 members from diverse backgrounds to exchange ideas on achieving a world without nuclear weapons, regardless of their national positions.
This webinar will focus on the recommendations issued at the sixth IGEP meeting and examine concrete pathways towards a world without nuclear weapons, ahead of the upcoming 2026 NPT Review Conference. As panelists, we have invited three members of the IGEP, along with a government official and an expert from overseas.

On May 14, 2025, Ambassador Yoshimoto attended the closing ceremony of the “Urgency Support for Reducing Waterborne Diseases in Freetown (UNOPS)”. Funded by Japan, this project helps the optimization of existing water distribution network with technical assessments and procurement of materials to improves the distribution system in Freetown where around 1.3 million people live.
2025年5月13日、シエラレオネにおける「フリータウンにおける水系感染症を減らすための緊急支援(UNOPS連携)」のクロージング式典が行われ、義本大使が出席しました。日本政府の支援で実施されたこの案件は、フリータウンの水配分システムの技術評価と水道管改善を行い、既存の水配分ネットワークを最適化することでフリータウンの住民約130万人が利用する水の安全性向上に寄与することが期待されます。

On May 14, 2025, Ambassador Yoshimoto attended the Solar Cold Storage handover ceremony of the “The project for strengthening agricultural value-chain (WFP)”. Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, H.D. Theresa Borno-Dick, also attended for this ceremony. Funded by Japan, this project helps to offer technical training and agricultural processing machinery for smallholder farmers, improves rice processing, management, and sales capabilities, and enhanced vegetable production and storage capabilities.
2025年5月13日、シエラレオネにおける「農業バリューチェーン強化計画(WFP連携)」の研修施設引き渡し式典が行われ、義本大使が出席しました。日本政府の支援で実施されたこの案件は、技術研修の提供や農業生産機械供与を通じて、小規模農家の米の加工、管理、販売能力の向上、野菜の生産と貯蔵の能力増強に寄与することが期待されます。

On May 13, 2025, The Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Hiroshi Yoshimoto attended the closing ceremony of “The Project for Promoting Youth Employment through Automotive Maintenance Skills Training (UNIDO)”. Minister of Technical and higer Education, H.E. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, also attended for this ceremony. Funded by Japan, this project contributes to establishing a center of excellence for automotive technician training and advancing youth employment.
2025年5月13日、シエラレオネにおける「自動車整備技能訓練を通じた若者雇用促進計画(UNIDO連携)」の研修施設引き渡し式典が行われ、義本大使が出席しました。この式典にはハジャ・ラマトゥライウリエ技術・高等教育大臣も臨席されました。日本政府の支援で実施されたこの案件は、自動車整備技能に係る職業訓練施設の建設とカリキュラムの構築により若者の雇用機会拡大に寄与することが期待されます。

On May 13, 2025, Ambassador Yoshimoto attended the closing ceremony of the “Emergency nutrition response in nine districts with the highest vulnerability to malnutrition and food insecurity in Sierra Leone (UNICEF)”and the opening ceremony of the” Emergency Nutrition, Health, and WASH response in five food and nutrition insecure districts in Sierra Leone (UNICEF)”. Funded by Japan, these projects help to improve prevention and treatment services of acute malnutrition for mothers and infants.
2025年5月13日、シエラレオネにおける「シエラレオネ国の食糧・栄養危機に最も脆弱な9県への緊急栄養支援(UNICEF連携)」のクロージング式典と「シエラレオネ国の食料・栄養危機に瀕する5県への緊急栄養・保健・WASH支援(UNICEF連携)」のオープニング式典が行われ、義本大使が出席しました。日本政府の支援で実施されたこの案件は、子供たちと妊産婦への急性栄養失調の予防にかかる栄養サービスと治療サービスの改善に寄与することが期待されます。
