Ms. Momoko SUZUKI, Chief Representative of the JICA Ghana Office, together with her successor, Mr. Takayuki UCHIYAMA, paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Tsotetsi Makong, Director of Coordination and Programmes at the AfCFTA Secretariat, following the transition of the Chief Representative at the JICA Ghana Office.

During the meeting, JICA and the AfCFTA Secretariat discussed the progress of their ongoing collaboration as well as potential new areas for future cooperation.

FROM FEW BASKETS TO TECHIMAN REGIONAL TOMATO KING : THE FUTURE FOR EVERY FARMER

Mr. Gordon Gyan of Techiman North District of the Bono East Region wasn’t the local hero even after a decade of hard work producing tomatoes and cabbages as a PWD farmer.

Embracing the G-SHEP approach of farming introduced by JICA and MoFA in 2023, he cultivated his new future. Today, his harvests are bountiful and his successes are much brighter with Regional PWD Best Farmer Award recognition in 2024, a new home, a tricycle for harvesting and many more.

FROM THE PADDY FIELDS TO BRANDING

From a humble peasant rice farmer in Bosome Freho district of Ashanti Region to the district’s celebrated Rice Champion. A truly inspiring journey!

By embracing the improved rice cultivation manual developed by JICA and MoFA in 2019, he transformed his story. From struggling with low yields to producing high‑quality branded rice that now dominates the local market. His hard work and courage are paying off.

Today, he’s not only nourishing his community but also building the dream home his family deserves.

Join us in celebrating Mr. Paul Ofori for this remarkable milestone. A true testament to what determination, paired with the improved cultivation practices and knowledge can achieve!

Reusable sanitary pad workshop

Through a connection made while living in the village, I was offered the opportunity to teach schoolgirls how to make reusable sanitary pads.

Students who had learned the process in advance became leaders and instructed the other students. They were incredibly reliable, and it was inspiring to see them teach and support each other.
The women also joined to help, and everyone worked together while enjoying the process of making the pads.
It was truly a meaningful and heartwarming time.

布ナプキンワークショップ（協力隊員活動）
任地での生活の中で出会った方のつながりで、現地の学校で布ナプキンの作り方を教える機会をいただきました。

事前に作り方を学んだリーダーの生徒たちが中心となり、他の生徒たちに教えてくれました。生徒同士で教え合う姿がとても頼もしかったです。
また、マダムたちも一緒に手伝ってくださり、みんなで協力しながら楽しく作ることができました。

JICA海外協力隊、ようこそガーナへ！

1月14日、JICA海外協力隊（2025年度2次隊）3名が無事ガーナに到着しました。赴任後の研修では、各隊員のカウンターパートをJICA事務所に招き、相互理解を深めるための研修を実施しました。国籍の違いによる考え方の違い、そこから生まれる新しい発想——日本人とガーナ人の共創が始まります。

これから2年間、ガーナ人の同僚と共に農業分野と教育（職業訓練）分野で活動していきます。どんな活動が生まれるのか、とても楽しみです！それぞれの分野でのご活躍を期待しています。

AKWAABA, WARM WELCOME NEW JICA VOLUNTEERS!

On 14th January 2026, our JICA Volunteers safely arrived in Ghana.

During the Orientation, we invited each volunteer’s counterpart to the JICA office and conducted a session aimed at deepening mutual understanding. Differences in perspectives arising from different national backgrounds can lead to new ideas—this marks the beginning of co-creation between Japanese and Ghanaians.

Over the next two years, the volunteers will work together with their Ghanaian colleagues in the fields of agriculture and education (vocational training). We are very excited to see what kinds of activities and initiatives will emerge.

We wish them great success in their respective fields!
