The Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA) of the West Akim Municipal Assembly with support from the Mastercard Foundation, on 13th May, 2026 presented Business-In-A-Box starter kits to 31 beneficiaries at the West Akim Municipal Assemblyโs premises.
The items distributed included:

Kitchen scales

Fruit juice bottles

And other essential business materials
Addressing the beneficiaries, Hon. Paulina Akabila, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), encouraged them to make good use of the equipment, remain disciplined, manage their time effectively, and stay resilient in the face of challenges. She also disclosed that a monitoring team will regularly visit their workplaces to provide support and assess progress.
The Municipal Budget Analyst, Mr. Billa Iddrisu, educated participants on the importance of business registration, while Madam Bernice Nyarko, BAC Director, congratulated the beneficiaries and advised them to properly maintain the equipment to ensure long-term use.

On Tuesday, 12th May 2026, the West Akim Municipal Assembly, under the leadership of Hon. Paulina Akabila, officially handed over the site for the commencement of the 24-Hour Economy Market Project in West Akim.
This project forms part of the Government of Ghanaโs broader 24-Hour Economy Initiative under the leadership of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, aimed at boosting Local Economic Development across all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) nationwide.
According to the Municipal Chief Executive, the West Akim 24-Hour Economy Market is expected to be completed within 12 months (1 year). The modern market will feature Cold-chain storage facilities, Security posts, Modern sanitary facilities
complimented by a 24-hour lighting systems.
The project is expected to significantly improve local commerce by enhancing market accessibility, supporting traders and farmers, reducing post-harvest losses, and creating employment opportunities within the municipality.
Construction officially begins today, marking another important step toward economic growth and development in West Akim. Indeed, great things are coming to the municipality.
Present at the ceremony were representatives of Osaberima Adu Darko III, the Municipal Coordinating Director, the contractor for the project, some heads of department and staff of the Assembly, and officials of the NDC.

On 27th April 2026, the Municipal Assembly marked another significant milestone with the successful sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of Mechanized Boreholes across five communities: Betoom, Adamu Fentwuma, Akrofikrom, Amantena Gadei, and Obotwen.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Paulina Akabila, reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to ensuring access to safe and quality water for the people of West Akim. She emphasized that this initiative reflects the Assemblyโs dedication to fulfilling key development promises of the Government of Ghana.
Construction is set to commence on Tuesday, 28th April 2026, with completion expected within one month. The beneficiary communities expressed profound gratitude, applauding the government and appealing for more transformative projects.
Additionally, a sod-cutting ceremony was held for the construction of a bridge on the Bunso community road, further enhancing infrastructure and connectivity in the municipality.

The West Akim Municipal Assembly has, over the past two days, undertaken a series of sod-cutting ceremonies as part of its ongoing commitment to improving the living conditions of residents across the municipality.
The projects, which span the education, health, water and sanitation sectors, are expected to significantly enhance access to essential services in several communities. Beneficiary areas include St. Thomas Senior High School, Nkurakan, and Quarshie, where Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds are to be constructed. Zion Primary School is set to receive a new classroom block to support teaching and learning.
In addition, communities such as Israel, Alimakojo, Nyankomase, Osenase RC, Densuakwa, and Kyei Krom will benefit from the provision of mechanized boreholes to improve access to safe and reliable water.
Leading the exercise, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Paulina Akabila accompanied by a delegation from the Assembly, urged community members and stakeholders to take ownership of the projects and ensure their proper maintenance upon completion.
In response, chiefs, elders, and assembly members from the beneficiary communities expressed their gratitude to the Municipal Assembly for its continued efforts to improve livelihoods through the provision of critical social infrastructure.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Paulina Akabila, has successfully commissioned the first phase of the mechanized borehole project undertaken by the West Akim Municipal Assembly.
This phase has brought much needed relief to the people of Adiembra, Akanteng, Bunso, Cocoa Station, and Akwadum, marking a significant step toward improving access to safe and reliable water in these communities.
During her engagement with community members and key stakeholders, Hon. Akabila stressed the importance of a strong maintenance culture to ensure the sustainability of the project. She urged beneficiaries to take collective responsibility for preserving the facility so it can continue to serve its intended purpose.
She further noted that this intervention is only the beginning, as the Assembly has lined up several other developmental projects aimed at improving the living conditions of residents across the municipality.
Hon. Paulina Akabila reaffirmed her commitment and that of the Assembly to working tirelessly to make West Akim a better place for all.

A few months ago, we shared the exciting news of the sod-cutting ceremony led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Paulina Akabila, for the construction of a 3-unit JHS block at Awahamโan initiative made possible through the support of partners committed to improving education in the community.
Today, that vision has been fully realized.
On 2nd April 2026, Awaham M/A JHS received a major facelift with the commissioning of a modern 3-unit classroom block, a staff common room, kitchen, a 6-unit toilet facility, a mechanized borehole with overhead tank, hybrid power system, and a hand-washing station.
This impactful project was delivered through the support of The Beast Philanthropy (Donor) in partnership with the West Akim Cooperative Cocoa Farmers & Market Union Ltd.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Paulina Akabila expressed heartfelt appreciation to the donors for honoring their commitment to the people of Awaham. She also announced plans to reward outstanding female students in the upcoming BECE, a step towards encouraging academic excellence among girls.
The Education Director, the Chief of Awaham, and the Assembly Woman all urged students to make responsible use of the facilities and maintain them for future generations.
From a promise at sod-cutting to a fully commissioned facility, this project stands as a testament to what collaboration can achieve. It addresses critical needs in education, water, and sanitation in Awaham.

The Presbyterian Basic School B and C JHS Block at Asamankese has been recommissioned after renovation following a devastating fire that destroyed the facility on 12th January 2026.
The renovation was undertaken by the Member of Parliament for the Lower West Akim Constituency, Hon. Owen Kwame Frimpong, to restore a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
On Wednesday, 4th March 2026, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Paulina Akabila, joined the Hon. MP, the Municipal Director of Education, Traditional Authorities (Nananom), and other stakeholders to recommission the facility.
At the ceremony, the Nkosuo Hemaa of Asamankese donated reading materials to promote reading among pupils, while Hon. Owen Kwame Frimpong in a similar gesture donated ceiling fans to improve conditions in the classrooms.
The Municipal Chief Executive reaffirmed the Assemblyโs commitment to strengthening education through initiatives such as enrolling public schools in the UC Maths Competition, rehabilitating deteriorated school structures, painting public schools, and constructing new classroom blocks across the municipality.
