OVER 50 TERTIARY STUDENTS RECEIVE GH₵200,000 BOOST AS MP SETH OSEI AKOTO INVESTS IN ATWIMA MPONUA’S FUTURE!

Over 50 tertiary students across the Atwima Mponua District in the Ashanti Region have received a significant financial boost from their Member of Parliament, Hon. Seth Osei Akoto, in a demonstration of his commitment to education and human capital development.

The beneficiaries received the support on Monday, 26th October 2026, at a brief but impactful ceremony attended by the former Member of Parliament and Minister for Sports, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah, alongside other past and present executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The ceremony took an exciting turn when Hon. Asiamah, before delivering his remarks, thrilled the enthusiastic gathering with energetic dance moves to the ever-melodious tune of “Obiaa Nsa Wo Mu.” His infectious energy drew others from the podium to join him, creating an atmosphere of excitement and celebration.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Hon. Asiamah urged them to become shining examples in their respective communities, emphasising that education remains the surest pathway to relevance and success in today’s world. He recounted his own political journey and experiences working alongside distinguished statesmen as an example of the opportunities education and perseverance can offer. He also commended Hon. Osei Akoto for his generosity and commitment to supporting the educational aspirations of young people in the district.

Mr Ekow Annan, the Human Resource Officer at the District Education Office, appealed to teachers benefiting from the support to return to their communities after completing their studies and help address the district’s growing teacher shortage. He disclosed that Atwima Mponua currently faces a deficit of over 700 teachers, a situation he lamented was negatively affecting contact hours and the quality of teaching and learning.

Hon. Seth Osei Akoto, in his address, encouraged the beneficiaries to remain focused, excel in their academic pursuits and distinguish themselves in their respective institutions. He reiterated his commitment to grooming a new generation of professionals across various disciplines and pledged to extend his support to students at different levels of the academic ladder.

He noted that the GH₵200,000 financial support for the 52 tertiary students was a testament to his resolve to invest in the future of the district by creating opportunities for thousands of young people to bridge existing gaps, fulfil their destinies and restore hope to those who might otherwise be left behind.

The visibly elated beneficiaries, accompanied by their parents, expressed profound gratitude to the MP for the timely intervention, describing the support as a significant contribution to their educational journeys and a source of renewed motivation to pursue academic excellence.

The initiative reinforces Hon. Osei Akoto’s commitment to education as a catalyst for development, empowerment and the transformation of lives across Atwima Mponua.

The meeting provided a vital platform for constructive discussions, accountability, policy deliberations and collective decision-making on issues affecting the various communities. It also reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to participatory governance and the implementation of development initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of residents.

Addressing the gathering, the District Chief Executive, Hon. HON. ISSAHAK IBRAHIM COMMISSIONS NEW CLASSROOM BLOCKS, DELIVERS 960 FURNITURE ITEMS TO SCHOOLS.

It was a moment of celebration, renewed hope and a powerful demonstration of commitment to education as Pakyi and Agogoso communities in the Atwima Mponua District witnessed the commissioning of two ultramodern six-unit classroom blocks on Friday, October 23, 2026. The projects, delivered under the development agenda of District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Issahak Ibrahim, are set to ease classroom congestion in Agogoso and replace a dilapidated classroom block in Pakyi, providing pupils and teachers with safer, more conducive environments for teaching and learning.

Addressing enthusiastic residents at the ceremonies, Mr. Ekow Annan, Human Resource Manager at the Mponua Education Directorate, commended the District Assembly for expediting the completion of the projects. He described the facilities as a significant boost to educational delivery and urged pupils to take their studies seriously and make maximum use of the improved learning environment. He also appealed to parents to stop placing the burden of household survival on school-going children, warning that forcing children to become breadwinners undermines their academic progress and contributes to school dropout, juvenile delinquency and teenage pregnancy.

In a significant announcement, Mr. Annan disclosed that the newly commissioned Agogoso classroom block had been earmarked to serve as a Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) centre, owing to its built-in security architecture. The development could improve examination arrangements for candidates in the area and further establish Agogoso as an important educational hub within the district.

The celebrations reached an exciting pitch as Hon. Issahak Ibrahim joined the elated residents in dancing to melodious tunes, reflecting the joy and appreciation of the communities. In his address, the DCE expressed gratitude to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for the timely release of the District Assemblies Common Fund, which he said had helped accelerate development projects. He also acknowledged the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration for initiating the Pakyi project, emphasising that development must transcend political differences.

Hon. Issahak explained that the President had directed Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to complete legacy projects inherited from previous administrations. He said the directive underscored the government's commitment to ensuring that public investments deliver tangible benefits to citizens, rather than allowing projects to be abandoned because of changes in political leadership. The completion of the Pakyi classroom block, therefore, stands as an example of the importance of continuity in governance and responsible management of public resources.

Turning his attention to parents, the DCE urged them to take greater responsibility for the welfare and education of their children, stressing that government efforts alone cannot guarantee educational success without active parental support. He reiterated the government's ambition for every Ghanaian child to complete at least Senior High School, describing education as an indispensable foundation for national development, social progress and the preparation of a skilled future workforce.

Beyond the commissioning of the classroom blocks, Hon. Issahak reinforced the Assembly's commitment to improving teaching and learning by providing substantial furniture support to schools across the district. The distribution comprised 360 dual desks, 250 mono desks, 300 chairs for kindergarten pupils, 50 hexagonal kindergarten tables, and 50 desks and chairs for teachers. The intervention is expected to ease furniture shortages, improve classroom organisation and create a more comfortable learning environment for pupils and teachers in beneficiary schools.

The DCE further charged School Management Committees (SMCs) and headteachers to make maintenance a priority, warning that the long-term value of the new facilities would depend on how well they were protected and managed. He urged school authorities and community stakeholders to cultivate a strong sense of ownership and ensure that the buildings and furniture remained in good condition for future generations of learners.

The well-attended ceremonies brought together political representatives, clergy, traditional authorities, the media, staff of the District Assembly and residents from the beneficiary communities. Their enthusiastic participation reflected the significance of the projects to local families and the wider district.

NYINAHIN PRAGYA FARES REDUCED FOLLOWING ENGAGEMENT WITH LEADERSHIP

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Mponua, Hon. Issahak Ibrahim, on Monday, 19th October 2026, engaged operators and riders of commercial autorickshaws, popularly known as Pragya, in Nyinahin following public concerns over recent fare increases.

The operators had increased short-distance fares from GH₵3 to GH₵5 and longer-distance fares within the township from GH₵5 to GH₵7. Following constructive discussions with the DCE and union leaders, they agreed to reduce the fares to GH₵4 and GH₵6, respectively, providing relief to commuters.

Hon. Issahak Ibrahim commended the operators and riders for their cooperation and willingness to reach an agreement in the interest of the public.

The District Finance Officer, Mr. Ebenezer Antwi Boasiako, also educated the operators on the importance of paying their operational fees to support revenue mobilisation and development in the district.

Inspector Andrew Agyir of the Police Department educated the riders on road traffic regulations, stressing the need to obtain valid licences and ensure their autorickshaws are properly insured. The engagement forms part of the Assembly’s commitment to addressing public concerns while promoting responsible and lawful commercial transport operations.

ANTI-GALAMSEY TASKFORCE INTENSIFIES CRACKDOWN ON ILLEGAL MINING ALONG RIVER OFFIN.

The fight against illegal mining in the Atwima Mponua District intensified on Friday, 9th October 2026, as the Anti-Illegal Mining Taskforce, in collaboration with the Blue Water Guard, embarked on an intensive enforcement operation along the Offin River around Adiembra.

The operation successfully disrupted illegal mining activities along the roadside stretch between Nyinahin and Mpasatia. Equipment used for the illegal operations was seized and destroyed, while the perpetrators fled upon the arrival of the taskforce.

The exercise forms part of sustained efforts to protect the Offin River, preserve the district’s forests and prevent further environmental degradation. Illegal mining poses a serious threat to the survival, health and livelihoods of the people of Mponua and, by extension, Ghanaians who depend on these natural resources.

Reiterating the Assembly’s commitment to the fight, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Issahak Ibrahim, stated: “We will not relent in our efforts to combat illegal mining and protect our natural resources. Our water bodies are essential to the survival, health and livelihoods of our people, and their protection remains a collective responsibility.”

Hon. Issahak commended the Anti-Illegal Mining Taskforce and the Blue Water Guard for their continued commitment and dedication to this important national duty. He reaffirmed the need for sustained enforcement and collective action to safeguard the Offin River and preserve the district’s natural resources for present and future generations.

ATWIMA MPONUA RECORDS 139 NEW HIV INFECTIONS SECOND HIGHEST IN ASHANTI REGION.

Atwima Mponua District has recorded 139 new HIV infections, ranking second-highest in the Ashanti Region after the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, according to 2025 data presented at the inauguration of a nine-member District Committee of the Ghana AIDS Commission on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

The disturbing figures have triggered a renewed call for urgent and coordinated action to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS in the district, with District Chief Executive, Hon. Ibrahim Issahak, leading efforts to strengthen public education, prevention and support services.

Speaking as Chairman of the newly inaugurated Committee, Hon. Issahak joined the Regional Team in urging members to develop and implement effective, evidence-based interventions to reduce new infections and minimise the burden of HIV/AIDS in Atwima Mponua.

Describing the situation as alarming, Mr. Ibrahim stressed that the district could not afford to remain complacent in the face of the statistics. He called for intensified public education, voluntary HIV testing and counselling, an end to stigma and discrimination, and improved access to prevention, treatment and support services.

He further charged members to approach their responsibilities with dedication, compassion and a strong sense of duty, emphasising that success would depend on sustained collaboration among health professionals, traditional authorities, religious leaders, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.

The nine-member Committee brings together representatives from key sectors of society. It is chaired by Hon. Ibrahim Issahak, with Deborah Mawuena Gaze as a member, Margaret Nambu representing the Ghana Education Service, and Joyce Bannerman representing the Health Directorate as a Public Health Nurse.

The other members are Nana Amoako Ogyampa, representing the Traditional Authority; Catchiest Collins Opoku Boah, Chairman of the Local Council of Churches; David Baggania, representing Civil Society; Abu Adam, representing the Muslim community; and Ernest Kofi Ashie, the focal person.

The inauguration marks an important step towards building a stronger, district-wide response to HIV/AIDS. With the new Committee expected to coordinate targeted interventions and deepen community engagement, the focus is now on translating the alarming statistics into meaningful action.

For Atwima Mponua, the message is clear. The fight against HIV/AIDS demands more than words. It requires collective responsibility, consistent public education, accessible health services and a united commitment to protecting lives.

ATWIMA MPONUA ASSEMBLY FUNDS PEUGEOT PICKUP WITH IGF TO BOOST REVENUE MOBILISATION

The Atwima Mponua District Assembly has made history with the procurement of a Peugeot pickup using its Internally Generated Funds (IGF), in a move aimed at strengthening revenue mobilisation, field operations and other administrative activities.

The vehicle was officially handed over to the Assembly on Tuesday, 6th October 2026, by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Issahak Ibrahim, during a brief ceremony at the Assembly premises.

The acquisition comes at a time when the Assembly had only two pickups in good working condition, making field operations and effective service delivery across the district increasingly challenging. Recognising the need for improved logistics, the DCE and management made the procurement of an additional vehicle a priority.

According to Hon. Issahak Ibrahim, the decision to finance the vehicle from the Assembly’s internally generated resources is a significant milestone and the first of its kind in the history of the Assembly.

“This is more than the acquisition of a vehicle. It is an investment in the Assembly’s operational capacity, particularly our efforts to improve revenue mobilisation, which remains critical to our ability to finance development and respond to the needs of our communities,” he said.

The DCE expressed pride that his tenure has seen internally generated resources being reinvested into strengthening the institution responsible for driving development across Atwima Mponua. He urged officers to take good care of the vehicle and strictly adhere to all scheduled maintenance.

The keys to the vehicle were subsequently handed over to the Assembly’s Transport Officer, Mr. Lawrence Osei, with the new pickup expected to provide much-needed logistical support as the Assembly intensifies revenue mobilisation and field operations across the district.

ATWIMA MPONUA TO TÜRKİYE: 3 YOUNG MEN LAND FULL MASTER’S SCHOLARSHIPS!

A new door of opportunity has swung wide open for young people from Atwima Mponua, as three promising young men—Anning Vincent, Douglas Gyebi and Mohammed Karim—have secured scholarship opportunities to pursue Master’s degree studies at Konya Food and Agriculture University in Türkiye.

Announcing the development on Tuesday, 29th September 2026, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Issahak Ibrahim, said the opportunity was made possible through the intervention and collaboration of Ghana’s Ambassador to Türkiye, H.E. Sheikh Abdul Nasir-Deen, a proud native of Atwima Mponua.

According to the DCE, the collaboration has opened five scholarship opportunities for promising young people from the district. Two beneficiaries have already secured their visas and departed Ghana on Saturday, 26th September, while another is scheduled to leave in February next year.

“This is exactly why I continue to cast my net as widely as possible, seeking opportunities and partnerships that can positively transform the lives of the people I proudly serve,” Hon. Ibrahim stated.

He congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to remain disciplined, focused and committed to excellence, emphasizing that their success could inspire many more young people back home.

“WE HAVE A K. G. BLOCK NOW, BUT WE STILL NEED WATER, ROADS AND TELEPHONY NETWORK!” — BAYEREBON No. 3 SPEAKS AS DCE COMMISSIONS NEW KG BLOCK

It was supposed to be a simple commissioning ceremony, but the people of Bayerebon No. 3 used the occasion to highlight challenges beyond their newly completed Kindergarten (KG) block. On Wednesday, 23rd September 2026, the community welcomed the District Chief Executive for Atwima Mponua, Hon. Issahak Ibrahim, who arrived with party faithfuls and staff of the Atwima Mponua District Assembly to commission the project. Schoolchildren, parents, teachers, clergy and residents gathered for the ceremony, celebrating the new facility while reminding authorities that more development was still needed.

In his address, the Assembly Member, Hon. Justice Nkrumah Boateng, praised the DCE for ensuring the completion of the long-awaited project but also drew attention to the community’s deplorable roads, poor telecommunication connectivity and inadequate access to water. His message was clear: the new KG block is a major achievement, but Bayerebon No. 3 still has unfinished business.

Hon. Issahak Ibrahim noted that the growing population of Atwima Mponua required the Assembly to provide more schools and expand educational infrastructure. He also acknowledged the contributions of his predecessors, Hon. Darko and Hon. Marfo, towards the completion of the project.

The DCE added that “Early childhood education lays the foundation for lifelong education and that reason, its important that our children have access to safe, appropiate and well-equipped learning spaces from the very beginning”.

The DCE assured residents that chairs and other essential ancillary facilities would be provided immediately to make the classrooms ready for effective teaching and learning. He further promised to facilitate the construction of a mechanised borehole by the close of the year and work towards securing a telecommunication network tower by next year.

The Kontihene of the community, Nana Yaw Oppong II, expressed appreciation to the DCE and the government but urged him to “walk his talk” by ensuring that the promises made were translated into tangible development. “For us within the community, the commissioning was not only the opening of a new KG block but also a renewed call for improved roads, water, communication and other essential infrastructure” He added.

The ceremony ended with cheers, dancing and celebrations from schoolchildren, parents, teachers, clergy and residents.

In attendance were the District Coordinating Director, Samuel Kwan Gyan; Clinton Achana, Budget Analyst; Kwadwo Boateng of IT; Lawrence Osei; Sestina Coffie; Kobby Sagoe; Ernest Ashie, Assistant Director; and Jephthah Sarfo of the Information Services Department, among other dignitaries and community members.
