The Liberals of Gibraltar would like to wish everyone a happy Pride Month 2025. As a party that champions individual freedom, we are honoured to have formed part of a Government that facilitated and delivered great reforms to civil rights and the protection of LGBTQ+ individuals in Gibraltar. As we look to the future, we must ensure that the these protections are upheld and fortified to protect those that are most vulnerable in our society.

Big news from Zagreb!
Last weekend, our amazing youth members Christina and Stevie represented Gibraltar Liberal Youth at the LYMEC Spring Congress in Croatia 🇭🇷!

They joined liberal youth from all over Europe to debate and vote on over 20 motions that could go on to shape real discussions in the European Parliament 🇪🇺 — how cool is that?!

We’re incredibly proud to be the only political party in Gibraltar offering young people these kinds of opportunities — real seats at the table, real impact, and a real voice in Europe’s future.

Christina and Stevie came back buzzing with new friendships, and a whole network of European liberal connections. This is what youth empowerment looks like — and we’re only just getting started!

Commonwealth Day 2025

Today is the annual celebration of the Commonwealth family of Nations. This year’s theme, ‘Together We Thrive’, resonates as much within the Gibraltarian community as it does across the wider network of commonwealth states.

Now, more than ever, it is important for Gibraltar to forge strong connections and fully utilise the resources found within the Commonwealth. By creating robust business links with fellow member states, we are paving the way for a resilient post-Brexit future that embraces innovation, unity, and shared prosperity.

Over the past year, two of our party members had the opportunity to represent Gibraltar at Commonwealth engagements.

In September 2024, Liberal Youth Johan Perez attended the 12th Commonwealth Youth Parliament held in Wellington, New Zealand. On the Commonweath, he reflects:

‘Commonwealth Youth forums allow Gibraltar to raise awareness of our unique political situation and aspirations to the future leaders and politicians of the commonwealth, a block historically known for its commitment to the principles of human rights, democracy and self-determination.’

In October 2024, Liberal Executive Karim Acolina attended the 13th Commonwealth Youth Forum & Commonwealth Business Forum, held in Apia, Samoa, alongside the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. He reflects on his experience as a National Youth Delegate:

‘As a National Youth Delegate, I was able to witness first-hand the knowledge-sharing that the Commonwealth link facilitates. The forums organised by the Commonwealth Secretariat provide a means for policy developments to be shared, whilst equipping young individuals with the tools to affect positive change in their respective jurisdictions.

Ramadan, a sacred month of fasting, reflection, and community in the Islamic calendar, invites millions around the world to renew their spirits and practice compassion. In Gibraltar, the observance of Ramadan highlights the shared values of generosity, self-discipline, and mutual respect, enriching the vibrant tapestry of our multicultural community.

Two of our executives, Karim Acolina & Santino Jimenez, attended a Unite the Union Gibraltar Community Branch Seminar on ‘The Rise of the Far Right in Europe’, offering solidarity against potential threats to Gibraltar and its workers. Karim notably posed a question on how central parties can effectively counter the rise of far-right support on media platforms and, subsequently, how we can protect the interest of local workers from such far-right ideology.

We want to reaffirm our commitment to protecting the individual freedom and civic rights of workers in Gibraltar. Thank you to the Unite the Union team for organising the event, and we look forward to attending future seminars.

Today marks the close of LGBTQ+ History Month. Those of us in the Liberal Party have been reflecting on the change that Gibraltar has undergone throughout the last 30 years.

Under the GSLP/LIB’s alliance, and with the strong activism of certain figures of the general public, the Gibraltarian community has been shaped into a progressive and inclusive hub, whereby individuals are uplifted and supported regardless of race, colour or creed.

We have enjoyed a Gibraltar Pride for 2 years now, and we would like to applaud the Gibraltar LGBTQ+ Committee on the fantastic work they do, ensuring that LGBTQ+ voices are heard and protected. The Gibraltar Liberal Party stands firm in the idea that the LGBTQ+ community should not simply be ‘tolerated’, but should be accepted and respected as another facet of the diverse and multidimensional Llanito population. 🏳️‍🌈

When you join the LPG, you aren't just a member of a local political party; you also become part of a wider family of European liberal groups.
