GPA MANAGEMENT PAYS COURTESY CALL ON THE CHARGÉ d’AFFAIRES OF EMBASSY OF THE KINGDOM OF MOROCCO TO THE GAMBIA

The Management of the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA), led by Managing Director Mr. Ousman M. Jobarteh, paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Mr. Hassan Alaoui Mostefi, the newly appointed Chargé d’Affaires Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco to The Gambia.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the GPA and the Association National des Ports (ANP) of Morocco in the maritime and port sectors, taking cue from the strong bilateral cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and The Gambia. The areas of cooperation between GPA and ANP include capacity development, knowledge exchange, digital transformation, green port initiatives, trade facilitation and port infrastructure expansion.

Discussions also highlighted the proposed Sanyang Deep Sea Port project and the opportunities for GPA to learn from ANP’s experience in port development and operations.

Mr. Jobarteh further emphasized the importance of strengthening the existing Inter-Port Cooperation established in 2019 with Morocco’s ANP.

Mr. Mostefi warmly welcomed the GPA delegation and reaffirmed his full support for the areas of cooperation discussed, underscoring the longstanding and cordial relations between The Gambia and the Kingdom of Morocco.

The engagement marks a positive step towards strengthening institutional ties, promoting knowledge transfer and exploring strategic partnerships for the continued transformation and sustainable development of The Gambia’s maritime sector.

Gambia Ports Authority–Bissau Port Inter- Port Visit Successfully Concluded

The Gambia Ports Authority Staff Association (GPASA), together with staff representatives from various departments of the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA), has successfully concluded a six-day interport visit to Bissau Port, Guinea-Bissau.

The visit culminated in a farewell dinner and the historic signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the GPASA and the Bissau Port Staff Association, marking a significant milestone in strengthening staff-to-staff cooperation between the two ports.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Managing Director of Guinea-Bissau Ports, the Deputy Ambassador of The Gambia to Guinea-Bissau, the Deputy Director of Legal Affairs of GPA, the Deputy Director of Corporate Services of GPA, the President of GPASA, and delegates and staff representatives from both Bissau Port and the Gambia Ports Authority.

The MoU provides a platform for knowledge and experience sharing, staff engagement, sporting activities, capacity building, and other mutually beneficial initiatives, further strengthening the existing relationship between the two institutions.

GPASA sincerely appreciates the warm hospitality extended by Bissau Port and acknowledges GPA Management’s continued support, cooperation, and encouragement in making the engagement possible.

GPA FC Welcomes New Head Coach, Tapha Manneh
The Gambia Ports Authority Football Club (GPA F.C) has welcomed Tapha Manneh as its new Head Coach, following a signing ceremony held on Monday 21st September, 2026 by the club’s management.

The appointment marks a new phase for GPA F.C, with the club reaffirming its commitment to player development, improved performance, discipline and the continued growth of the team.

Speaking at the ceremony, GPA F.C President Arthur Ashcroft highlighted the club’s expectations for the new technical leadership, particularly the development and transformation of players and creating opportunities for them to progress to higher levels of football.

He further emphasized GPA’s investment in the club and the importance of translating that investment into improved team performance and quality player development.

Newly appointed Head Coach Tapha Manneh expressed appreciation to GPA F.C management for the opportunity and highlighted the importance of institutional support in achieving the team’s objectives. He identified areas including logistics, player welfare, motivation, medical care and other forms of support necessary for the effective running of the team.

The new Head Coach also expressed his commitment to working with the players and technical team towards achieving the objectives of the club.

GPA F.C looks forward to this new chapter and remains committed to developing talent, supporting young footballers and strengthening the future of the club.

CMA CGM Chief Security Officer Pays Courtesy Call to The Gambia Ports Authority

The Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) received a high-level delegation from CMA CGM led by Mr. Dartaguiette Jean Michel, Chief Security Officer, CMA CGM Head Office, Marseille, France. The courtesy call focused on port and maritime security, operational cooperation, and ongoing developments in The Gambia’s port sector. He was accompanied by Mr. Dominique Amien, Managing Director CMA CGM Gambia, and Mr. Alieu Jobe, Customer Service Manager.

The delegation was received by GPA Managing Director Mr. Ousman Jobarteh, Chief Pilot Mr. Bubacarr Ceesay, and Alport Management representatives Mr. Cem, Port Manager, and Mr. Baris, Head of Security. In his remarks, MD Jobarteh reaffirmed GPA’s commitment to maintaining a safe and secure port environment, noting that The Gambia has never experienced any piracy or armed robbery at the Port of Banjul. He highlighted the strong multi-agency security framework at the port involving Customs, Police, Navy, Immigration, Interpol, NDLEA and other agencies.

Discussions also covered potential risks in international port operations including illegal migration, drug trafficking, movement of stolen vehicles, smuggling and unauthorized access. Mr. Cem briefed the delegation on the Albayrak Group’s global port operations and its role in transforming The Gambia’s port sector, with emphasis on major developments including the Albayrak concession, Banjul Port expansion and the Sanyang Deep Sea Port project.

The visit concluded with a guided tour of the Port of Banjul led by Mr. Baris, giving the CMA CGM team first-hand insight into terminal operations and security procedures. The courtesy call reaffirmed the shared commitment of GPA, CMA CGM and Alport Banjul to strengthening cooperation, enhancing security, and supporting the growth of The Gambia’s maritime and logistics sector.

GPA POWERS HEALTHCARE

Yesterday, 9th July 2026, the Gambia Ports Authority once again answered the call to serve the nation.

GPA donated a brand new 1000 KVA Generator Set to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, The Gambia’s main referral hospital.

This timely intervention will help ensure uninterrupted power supply for critical services like surgeries, ICU, maternity, laboratories, and emergency care. No more disruptions that put lives at risk.

Presenting the generator Alh Ousman M. Jobarteh, the Managing Director, GPA reaffirmed GPA’s commitment to supporting national institutions that save lives and serve every Gambian.

“At GPA, we believe that a strong port means a stronger nation. And a stronger nation means better health for our people.”

GPA Extends Support to Bansang Hospital with Medical Supplies and D100,000 Donation at the Inauguration of the Newly Built accident and emergency unit

The Gambia Ports Authority has once again demonstrated its commitment to national development and community welfare. Through the FABB Foundation, GPA donated essential medical items and a cash sum of One Hundred Thousand Dalasis (D100,000) to Bansang Hospital to help strengthen healthcare delivery in the Central River Region. The donation forms part of GPA’s Corporate Social Responsibility to support health institutions across the country.

The presentation ceremony was graced by Her Excellency, the First Lady of The Gambia,Hon. Minister of Information,the Governor of WCR, senior government officials, and the Alkalo of Bansang, Representing the Managing Director of the Gambia Ports Authority was Mr. Landing Sanyang, Deputy Director of Corporate Services and Business Development Department. Their presence highlighted the national importance of investing in healthcare and supporting facilities that serve thousands of Gambians.

Speaking briefly at the inaugural ceremony, the Deputy Director of Corporate Services recognised the importance of GPA’s contribution towards The First Lady’s development initiatives for the people in the region.

The Gambia Ports Authority has once again demonstrated its commitment to national development by fulfilling its dividend obligation. On 24th June 2026, GPA paid D70 million to the Government of The Gambia in a ceremony held at the State House. This milestone reflects GPA’s strong financial performance and its role as a key revenue contributor to the national treasury.

The auspicious occasion was graced by His Excellency President Adama Barrow,Cabinet Ministers, the Chairman of the SOE Commission, the GPA Board Chairman, GPA Management, and other senior government officials. Their presence underscored the importance of Gambia Ports Authority as a strategic state enterprise driving trade, employment, and economic growth for our country.

This D70 million dividend is more than a financial transaction, it’s an investment in schools, healthcare, roads, and services that touch every Gambian. GPA remains committed to operational excellence, transparency, and supporting The Gambia’s development agenda.

PRESS RELEASE
ALPORT STAFF HUMAN RESOURCE MATTERS

In response to the recent information being circulated regarding the GPA and Alport's failure to comply with the Government directive to address staff welfare matters is false and unfounded. The general public is hereby informed that staff welfare matters have been resolved, and the following measures are being implemented by GPA and Alport:

1. A joint HR Committee was constituted by GPA and Alport with representatives from GPA, Alport, and the Alport Staff Association to address all staff welfare matters.

2. Staff salaries and other entitlements for the months of April and May 2026 were paid on time.

3. Disbursement of miscellaneous and personal loans was done before the Tobaski.

4. GPA and Alport have signed off on the HR Resolution to resolve staff welfare concerns.

5. The issue of overtime payments was resolved with added benefits.
