As custodians of the Banjul Mini Stadium, we had the pleasure of hosting the Banjul Sports Committee under the leadership of Mr. Momodou Musa Njai at the Banjul City Council. During our discussions, we were thoroughly briefed on their activities and plans for the upcoming Nawettan season. I took this opportunity to reiterate the Lord Mayor and Banjul City Council’s unwavering commitment to the development of sports in Banjul. As a council, we are dedicated to supporting and empowering the Banjul Sports Committee in their role as the mandated body for sports development, knowing that their success is ultimately our shared success.

We also discussed several potential partnerships aimed at strengthening sports infrastructure and programs in the city.

In the same vein, as the Deputy Mayor of Banjul, I had the honor of presenting a cheque for D70,000 on behalf of the Banjul City Council, under the leadership of the Lord Mayor, as our contribution towards this year’s Nawettan. I encouraged the Banjul Sports Committee to continue their commendable work and reassured them of our continued support.

Together, we strive for a better, more vibrant sporting future for Banjul!

Today, I had the privilege of deputizing for the Lord Mayor of Banjul City Council as I delivered the opening statement at the regional dissemination of The Gambia's Demographic Dividend Profile and Demographic Dividend Monitoring Index (DDMI) for Banjul. This significant event, following the validation of these critical reports earlier in March, provided us with valuable insights into harnessing the potential of our nation's demographic dividend.

Our discussions highlighted the immense opportunities presented by our young population, emphasizing the need to invest in their education, health, and skills to create a vibrant and prosperous future for Banjul and The Gambia as a whole. The interactive session underscored our shared commitment to maximizing the potential of our demographic structure and driving sustainable development.

I was also honored, as the Deputy Mayor, to deliver the closing remarks and to witness the enthusiastic participation from all attendees, including the Ward Councillors of Banjul. Special thanks to the National Population Commission Secretariat - The Gambia and the National Observatory for the Demographic Dividend for their tireless efforts in developing and disseminating these critical tools. Your dedication to advancing The Gambia’s development agenda is truly commendable.

Together, we are laying the groundwork for informed decision-making and transformative action that will benefit our city and nation.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making today’s event a success. Let’s continue to work together to unlock the full potential of our demographic dividend.
