Historic Intergenerational Dialogue in URR – Youth at the Center of Peacebuilding

Today, we staged one of the largest and most inclusive intergenerational dialogues ever held in the Upper River Region (URR).

From the Chairman of Basse Area Council and his team, to chiefs, alkalos, youth leaders, women leaders, PWD organizations, religious leaders (pastors and imams), the media, migrant returnees, and the office of the regional governor, we mobilized voices across society to stand together for peace. To agree to a new social contract for peace and inclusion in an election year.

Funded by the United Nations ( ) and led by ActionAid International The Gambia, the project promotes youth inclusion in civic spaces and local infrastructures for peace.

THE HIGHLIGHT:
All stakeholders signed a Peace Commitment Charter; a powerful pledge to uphold peace during this election year and to place young people at the heart of decision-making and peace processes in the region.

Let's give peace a chance!

Statement of Solidarity with Gambians Against Looted Assets Comrades

We stand in solidarity with comrades Kemo Fatty, Alieu Bah, and Omar Camara, who today will once again appear before the courts: victims of prolonged proceedings for nothing more than exercising their fundamental right to freedom of assembly.

The continued delays in reaching a final ruling not only burden these individuals but risk silencing critical voices at a time when democracy demands openness, fairness, and participation. In an election year, such delays cast a shadow over the principles of justice and the democratic values we all hold dear.

We affirm that freedom of assembly is not a privilege, it is a constitutional right. To prolong justice is to deny justice. To silence voices is to weaken democracy.

We therefore call for an end to these drawn-out proceedings and urge that justice be delivered without further delay. The strength of our democracy lies in protecting dissent, safeguarding rights, and ensuring that no citizen is punished for standing up peacefully for what they believe in.

Justice delayed is democracy denied.

53rd Dialogue Successfully Implemented!

We are proud to announce the successful implementation of the final dialogue in this groundbreaking project, hosted today in Banjul North Constituency with their NAM, Hon. Modou Lamin B. Bah

Member of the constituency celebrated Hon. Bah’s accessibility, dedication, and impact on the lives and livelihoods of the people. In his testimony, Hon. Bah praised Activista and expressed gratitude to National Endowment for Democracy for the support:

“I am happy to be groomed, trained and empowered by Activista. Before becoming a NAM, I was very active serving Activista, and have literally gone to the most hard-to-reach areas in this country, impacting positively into the lives and livelihood of Gambians.”

This marks the 53rd of 53 planned dialogues, a milestone achievement! Next, we will convene a day-long meeting with NAMs to review reports and recommendations from across all dialogues.

👏 Thank you NED for making this journey possible. We are collectively shaping stronger communities and amplifying voices across The Gambia.
