Essa Mbaye Faal was not fair with Gambians in his analysis of the draft constitution. Essa to the dismay of all, was very Economical with truth of telling Gambians that, no constitution is pass with retrospective effect. Why should Gambia be an exception to that very important legal principle? Matter of fact if Government stance is to remedy that, in all fairness we expect the like of Essa to come out and praise the Government for that, not twisting it to score cheap political points.
The political affiliation in the first draft constitution was in the open for all to see. It’s unfortunate for Gambians to spent such huge amount of money on drafting a constitution that ended up being politically motivated by the drafters. We have seen provisions in that draft trying to protect individuals who have been convicted and should not contest for presidency being tactically qualified to enable them run for presidency in that first draft. The power imbalance between the organs of the Government and the open discriminatory provisions against Gambians living abroad are all defections of that draft constitution. So we call on the like of Essa Faal to give honest and clear information to Gambian rather hiding behind political clouts to mislead Gambians about Government’s stance on the new draft. His Excellency, President Adama Barrow, regrets to announce the sudden demise of Colonel Abdoulie Mboob, State Guard Commander at the State House. Colonel Mboob passed away this evening at a private clinic.
