BAC SIGNED D1M WATER PROJECTS IN FONI BONDALI AND JARROL DISTRICTS

Earlier today, we signed a contract worth D1,054,200
(One million, fifty four thousand and two hundred dalasis) for the drilling of two solar powered boreholes with its accessories with Baisa Lateral Drilling and Plumbing Enterprise.

The project beneficiaries are the villages of Kanjibat and Kanwally in Bantanjang Ward, Foni Bondali District and Arankon K***a in Wassadou Ward, Foni Jarrol District.

The contract is expected to be implemented within duration of NOT MORE THAN 45 days and upon completion will improve access to safe drinking water by the beneficiaries communities.

GALGA second quarterly monitoring countrywide tour

The Executive Committee of the Gambia Association of Local Government Authorities (GALGA) visited the Council as part of the Association's second quarter monitoring tour of Councils.

The Executive delegation led by the president of GALGA who double as the Chairman of Mansakonko Area council, Hon. Landing Sanneh and accompanied by GALGA's 1st Vice President Honourable Foday Danjo and GALGA Secretariat.

The purpose of the GALGA tour is for GALGA Executive and the Secretariat to conduct face-to-face discussion with Councils on their various gains and challenges and to share ideas for improvement.

In his welcoming remarks, Hon. Sheriffo Sonko assured the delegation of his office's resolve in contributing to creating the enabling environment for GALGA as consurtium of the Local Government Authorities in the country.

A detailed progressive report of GALGA was presented and was followed by a presentation of Council's Second Quarterly activity report by our Director of Planning and Development.

The session was attended by councillors and Senior staff.

BAC Disbursed D1.4m to 7 Communities.

Earlier today, the Brikama Area Council disbursed a sum of One million, Four Hundred and Seventeen thousand, three hundred and ten dalasi (D1,417,310) to seven communities within the region.

The support followed a formal request from beneficiary communities and an assessment conducted by the Directorate of Planning and Development to determine the alignment of the requests to community's strategic needs.

The intervention in these communities are equally consistent with the council's vision and strategic goals to enhance the quality of life of the inhabitants through citizen-focused service delivery.

The communities that benefited from the support are;
1. Kuloro Village Development Committee received D259,910, for the completion of Community market project.

2. Tawuto VDC received D62,400 for water expansion project.

3. Sangajor VDC received D138,500 for the upgrading of the solar water system.

4. The Progressive Youth of Kampasa received D156,500 for upgrading of water borehole system.

5. Marakissa Sports Committee received D100,000 for the completion of the fencing of a football field.

6. Lamin CDC Development Association received D250,000 for rehabilitation of a 4.8 Kilometers feeder road.

7. Nema Kabilo Development Association Brikama D450,000 for the provision of 60 solar street lights as part of plans to transform the community of Brikama Nema.

Our today's intervention is expected to enhance and improved access to safe drinking water, basic facilities and mitigate security challenges upon completion.

Handing over of our New Office Complex

Earlier today, we took delivery of the New Office Complex constructed under the Rural Infrastructural Development Project (RIDP) and implemented by GAMWORKS.

The New complex worth over GMD 21,000,000 (Twenty-one Million dalasis) is contracted to Krubally construction company Limited and the consultant is FENTA Architects.

The handing over ceremony coincided with the tour of the National Assembly Select Committee on the monitoring of the Implementation of Government projects and was attended by Governor WCR, Director General GAMWORKS and a host of other regional dignitaries.

The Lamin Village Street lighting Project Inaugurated

The above community-driven initiative was inaugurated yesterday evening at a colorful ceremony attended by our chairman and a host of other officials.

The initiative supported by the council with the sum of D368,000 in February 2021 is in line with our strategic priority One of the council's strategic plan 2020/2024.

The street lighting project covered strategic areas within Lamin namely, Harr Yalla, Wayoto West zone, and Temasu respectively.

Our heartfelt congratulations to the Lamin Village Development Committee for the Foresight and judiciously utilizing the funds for its intended purpose.

MoLRG, UTG, and UNDP poised to bridge capacity gaps .

The Ministry of Land, Regional Government and Religious Affairs in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme Economic Management Project and The University are poised to undertake the recruitment and placements of Interns within the Eight Local Government Authorities across the country.

The Officials of the aforementioned Institutions met the Management earlier today in a fruitful discussion as part of rapid needs assessment to establish the training needs of the council.

The deployment of interns to the eight LGAs is envisaged for mid June 2021.

Stakeholders Engagement on Irregular Migration

The Council has co.funded a one day engagement with stakeholders on irregular migration held at the Regional Education Office in Brikama, West Coast Region organised by the Global Youth Parliament Gambia Chapter.

The Forum is meant to draw stakeholders' insights and draw solutions from diverse stakeholders in addressing irregular migration which has claimed the lives of countless Gambians in search of green pastures.

Global youth parliament is an organization of youths with a common vision of educating, informing and promoting the ideas of young people around the globe. The Organization seeks to generate the interest of young people so that they can contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of their various countries and the world large.

Joint Project Site visit

Th Council in collaboration with the National road Authority (NRA) jointly conducted a project site visit today 21st May 2021.

The purpose of the visit was to access the level of progress, discuss challenges and undertake corrective measures to ensure the timely ex*****on of these significant works.

The sites visited were the concrete road construction from the Church Junction via the Brikama District Hospital Methodist Academy to the New town Highway (Lot:1) and Gravel Access Road at Tambana (Lot 3).

Chairman took delivery of food items

The Turkish Coordination and Cooperation Agency (TIKA) on 6th May, donated food items to the council for onwards transmissions to vulnerable families in the region.

One hundred and fifty bags of 25kg rice, One hundred and fifty bags of 10kg sugar, and one hundred and fifty Gallon of 5litre cooking oil, were handed over to the chairman by the country coordinator of Tika Mr. Mehmet.

Mr. Mehmet describes the gesture as his institutional commitment to serving humanity. He recognized the council as a genuine partner to facilitate the delivery of the food items to needy people.

The chairman thanked Tika for the Ramadan Food Aid. He assured the proper and equitable distribution of the items amongst the targets.
