I am Binta Senghore, serving as the Youth Councilor in the Brikama Area Council. I advocate for policies and initiatives that promote women and youth participation in leadership and decision-making. I believe we can create a country where women have the opportunity to lead and influence change. I'm working to pass the quota system bill to increase women's representation in parliament and LGAs. I recognize the vulnerability of women, especially in markets and politics, and I am committed to empowering them.

Today, we come together to celebrate International Women’s Day, a powerful reminder of the progress we have made in advancing women’s rights and a call to action for the work that still lies ahead. As a young advocate for women’s representation and leadership, I am inspired by the incredible contributions of Gambian women throughout history and invigorated by the potential we have to shape the future.
Women play vital roles in every aspect of our society from politics and business to science and the arts. Yet, we still see a glaring underrepresentation of women in leadership positions, which limits the diversity of perspectives and ideas that drive innovation and progress. It’s time to change that narrative.
Today, I urge each of you to reflect on how we can uplift and amplify the voices of women in our communities. Whether it’s through mentorship, advocacy, or simply being an ally, we all have a part to play in fostering an environment where women can thrive and lead.
Let us celebrate the achievements of women who have broken barriers and paved the way for future generations. Let us also recommit ourselves to the journey ahead, advocating for policies and initiatives that promote gender equality and inclusivity in all spaces. Together we can create a world where women not only have a seat at the table but also have the opportunity to lead and influence change.
On this Day, let's honor the women who inspire us and empower one another to continue striving for a more equitable future.
With hope and determination💯🇬🇲🙏
Honourable Binta Senghore

As the youth representative at the Brikama area council (BAC), it is truly an honor to witness yet another milestone in our journey toward sustainable development – the third disbursement of the Brikama Area Council ( BAC)Ward Development Fund, an under the leadership of chairman Yankuba Darboe. This allocation serves as a testament to our collective commitment to fostering growth and innovation within our community.
The disbursement reflects our ongoing dedication to enhancing the lives of every resident in the ward. With these funds, we can support various projects that address the specific needs of our constituents, particularly the youth, women, and vulnerable populations. It is our responsibility to ensure that these resources are utilized effectively and transparently, paving the way for initiatives that promote education, health, infrastructure, and local entrepreneurship.
Having a say in how these funds are allocated is empowering. As a youth rep, I am excited about the opportunity to advocate for programs that resonate with our younger generation. Whether it's supporting skills training workshops, improving access to recreational facilities, or investing in technology for our schools, my goal is to ensure that the voices of young people are heard and prioritized in our developmental strategy.
This disbursement is not just a financial transaction; it is a commitment to our future. Let us embrace this opportunity with hope and determination, working hand-in-hand to build a Community that we can all take pride in. It was inspiring to witness so many dedicated individuals come together, united by a common goal of creating a cleaner and healthier environment for our community.

I am honored to share that I have been invited as a guest speaker today to deliver a speech focused on an incredibly important topic: promoting sustainable and safe hygiene practices for girls and women. 🌸
In a world where women's health is sometimes overlooked or stigmatized, it's crucial that we shine a light on proper hygiene practices that empower and protect. From menstrual health education to safe sanitation, these topics are not just essential for individual well-being, they are keys to unlocking potential and fostering resilience in our communities.

As the Youth Representative of the Brikama Area Council (BAC), I was privileged to meet with members of the Gambian Against Looted Assert (GALA) aimed at fostering stronger community ties and enhancing our collective initiatives. The team was lead by Mr Hakim Touray and Omar Sanyang, who both lead a discussion on the need to have a national dialogue regarding the situation we( citizens) are facing in terms of corruption. They are about to start a national tour or dialogue about the need for Gambian’s to come together to fight against corruption.
This meeting presents a wonderful opportunity for all of us to come together, share ideas, and explore ways to support each other within our vibrant community. I believe that by collaborating with GALA members, we can create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone in the WCR.
Then I lead the team (GALA) to the market to talk to the vendors and young people around the Brikama market, where they had a fruitful conversation with the people of Brikama and then the team proceeded to KM.
I sincerely thank the entire membership of GALA for paving the way for a democratic governance in the future for us ( Gambian’s)
