Good morning, Gambia!

This man is Lamin Senghore, a former soldier who appeared before the TRRC after being accused of human rights violations. During his time in the army, he was widely known by the nickname “The Assass*n.”

After leaving the military, Senghore joined the Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG). The TRRC actually recommended his dismissal, but instead he was just suspended for a while and eventually brought back.

A few weeks ago, Senghore got a tip that a guy named Hagie Sillah was dealing white powder. He and another officer, Fallou, set up an ambush for him around the Sukuta–Jabang Traffic Light.

When they searched Hagie’s car, they found something that looked like white powder. Not wanting to get arrested for drug trafficking, Hagie tried to negotiate. Senghore asked for D300,000, but Hagie managed to talk him down to D150,000.

The problem was, Hagie only had D21,000 in his Wave wallet. He sent that to them and promised to pay the rest later. Senghore then told him to hand over his car as a guarantee, and Hagie agreed. He gave them his Hyundai Santa Fe and took a taxi home.

Senghore and Fallou drove off with the car. The next morning, Hagie went straight to Police Headquarters in Banjul and reported them. Both officers were arrested and later released on bail.

When the white powder was tested, it turned out to be fake.
