URR REGIONAL COMMISSIONER RECEIVES MOBILE TRAFFIC COMMISSIONER FOR TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT OPERATION

The Regional Commissioner of Police for the Upper River, Yerro Mballow, on Saturday, June 13, 2026, welcomed the Commissioner of Mobile Traffic, Lamin King Colley, and his team to Basse as part of an ongoing traffic enforcement operation aimed at improving compliance with road traffic laws and regulations.

The operation targeted the monitoring and inspection of motor vehicles and motorcycles across the region. During the exercise, the Mobile Traffic team detected several traffic offences, including the use of vehicles without registration plates, driving without valid licences, expired tinted-glass permits, and expired road tax certificates, among other violations.

As a result, a number of vehicles and motorcycles found to be in breach of traffic regulations were impounded and conveyed to Bansang Police Station for further processing and appropriate action.

The Gambia Police Force Traffic Unit remains committed to strengthening enforcement measures nationwide to encourage responsible road use, improve public safety, and ensure full compliance with traffic laws and regulations.

COMMISSIONER NDONG JOINS OFFICIALS AT SWEARING-IN CEREMONY OF NEW PARAMOUNT SEYFO

The Regional Commissioner of Police for the Lower River, Mustapha Ndong, on Sunday, June 14, 2026, attended the swearing-in ceremony of Alhagie Yahya Jarjusey as the new Paramount Seyfo of The Gambia. The event took place in Soma, Lower River Region.

Upon the arrival of the newly appointed Paramount Seyfo, Commissioner Ndong joined fellow service chiefs and senior government officials in receiving and welcoming him to the ceremony.

The event attracted a large number of attendees, including dignitaries, musicians, cultural groups, and members of the public. Traditional performances and cultural displays formed part of the celebrations, adding colour and significance to the occasion.

Commissioner Ndong extended his congratulations to Alhagie Yahya Jarjusey on his appointment and applauded the organisers for the successful ex*****on of the event.

His participation highlighted the Gambia Police Force’s ongoing commitment to fostering strong community relations and enhancing engagement between the police and the public.

The Gambia Police Force informs the public that a four-day live firing exercise will be conducted at the Tintinba Firing Range as part of the ongoing police recruitment training.

The exercise will take place from Monday 22nd, to Thursday, 24th June 2026.

Residents in and around Tintinba are advised not to panic but are strongly warned to stay away from the area during this period for safety reasons.

NORTH BANK REGIONAL COMMISSIONER LEADS RESCUE OPERATION FOLLOWING SUSPECTED MIGRANT BOAT CAUGHT FIRE

The Regional Commissioner of Police for the North Bank Region, Commissioner Mustapha Sowe, on Monday, June 15, 2026, spearheaded a rescue operation after a suspected migrant boat caught fire at Nuimi Bunyadu.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred during the early hours of Monday, resulting in several migrants onboard sustaining burn injuries. The injured victims were rescued and transported to Essau Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Commissioner Sowe coordinated the emergency response and oversaw efforts to ensure that the victims received timely medical care.

The captain of the vessel is currently unaccounted for, while investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Gambia Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting lives and property and will continue to support efforts aimed at ensuring public safety and security.

COMMUNITY POLICING UNIT CONTINUES NATIONWIDE PEACE ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN IN UPPER RIVER REGION

The Community Policing Unit of the Gambia Police Force, alongside the Gender and Child Welfare Unit, the Human Rights and Professional Standards Unit, and the Police Intervention Unit (PIU), on Saturday, June 13, 2026, continued its nationwide peace advocacy campaign at the University of Education, Basse Annex, and the community of Kabakama in the Upper River Region.

The sensitisation campaign focused on promoting peaceful coexistence, political tolerance, and public awareness on the dangers of electoral violence, hate speech, and misinformation ahead of the December 2026 Presidential Election.

During the engagements, officers highlighted the importance of community policing, proactive crime prevention, and effective police-community partnership in maintaining peace and security before, during, and after the electoral process.

Participants were urged to reject hate speech, misinformation, and all forms of electoral violence, while embracing lawful conduct and respect for the rule of law.

The Gender and Child Welfare Officer also sensitised participants on child protection, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), the harmful effects of early and forced marriage, and the age of criminal responsibility in The Gambia, which is 12 years.

Brief presentations were further delivered on the mandate of the Police Intervention Unit and the role of the Human Rights and Professional Standards Unit in promoting accountability, professionalism, and human rights compliance within policing.

Community leaders, including the Alkalo and Imam of Kabakama, welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting peace, security, and continued community engagement ahead of the 2026 Presidential Election.

The Gambia Police Force remains committed to strengthening public sensitisation and community outreach initiatives nationwide in promoting peace, security, and national cohesion.

The Gambia Police Force Male Football Team has advanced to the final of the Second Edition of the ECOMIG Tournament following a 1–0 victory over the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Bakau Upper Basic School.

The ECOMIG Tournament serves as a platform to strengthen unity, camaraderie, and healthy competition among The Gambia’s security institutions. Through sports, the initiative promotes teamwork, discipline, physical fitness, and stronger civil-military relations, while fostering collaboration and mutual understanding among members of the Police Force, Armed Forces, and other security services in support of national peace and stability.

Under the guidance of Head Coach Corporal Bakary Darboe, the GPF team has enjoyed an impressive campaign, winning all its matches and displaying resilience, discipline, and a strong winning mentality throughout the competition.

Their outstanding performance has earned them a place in the final, where they will take on the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) in an exciting all-security showdown scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Bakau Mini-Stadium.

The success of the team has been attributed to the commitment of the players and the strategic leadership of Coach Darboe, whose tactical expertise has helped build a disciplined and highly competitive squad.

The Regional Commissioner of Police for the Central River, Commissioner Dembo Sanneh, on Friday, June 12, 2026, received the Commissioner of Mobile Traffic, Lamin King Colley, and his team in Bansang for a traffic enforcement operation aimed at strengthening compliance with road traffic regulations.

The exercise focused on monitoring the operations of motor vehicles and motorcycles across the region. During the operation, the Mobile Traffic team identified numerous traffic-related offences, including vehicles operating without registration plates, driving without valid licences, expired tinted-glass clearances, and expired road tax certificates, among other violations.

Several motor vehicles and motorcycles found in contravention of traffic laws were impounded and transported to Bansang Police Station pending further action.

The Gambia Police Force Traffic Unit continues to intensify enforcement efforts to promote responsible road use, enhance public safety, and ensure strict adherence to traffic laws and regulations throughout the country.
