‘tis the season ☘️

Throughout March we were honoured to host and participate in a number of events across both Greece and Albania, taking the opportunity to celebrate St Patrick’s Day with so many of you.

Kicking off March, we hosted the first official St Patrick’s Day reception in Tirana, joined by colleagues and friends from across Albania. Ambassador Ciara O’Floinn also participated in a discussion co-hosted by the student-led Celtic Society at the College of Europe, Tirana.

We were delighted to welcome Minister Jim O’Callaghan to Athens on his official St Patrick’s Day programme. This visit included official meetings with Greek counterparts and UNHCR, the annual Greek-Irish Society St Patrick’s Day Ball, and the Embassy’s St Patrick’s Day Reception. With thanks to all who attended and our sponsors for the event for their support.

During March, Ambassador O’Floinn also met with US Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle, during which they discussed shared Irish heritage (including attendance at Trinity College Dublin!).

Rounding off the month, Ambassador O’Floinn travelled to Grevena, Greece, to attend their annual St. Patrick's Day Festival. The visit provided Ambassador O’Floinn an opportunity to learn more about the cultural richness of the area, of which St Patrick’s Day plays an important role for the community.

GRMA/thank you!

Four years since the unprovoked and unjustified full-scale invasion against Ukraine, Ireland re-affirms our unwavering commitment to support Ukraine.

It is past time for the aggression on Ukraine to come to an end. Ireland welcomes the ongoing peace efforts to end Russia’s war of aggression and achieve a just and lasting peace and security for Ukraine.

The recent visit to Ireland by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy brought into focus what the stakes are for Ukraine, Ireland and Europe.

Ireland will continue to provide political as well as financial, humanitarian and non-lethal military support to Ukraine. Since the onset of the war in February 2022, Ireland has contributed €467.4 million in support of Ukraine.

Russian attacks in Ukraine have targeted energy, transport, and even hospitals and schools, seeking to break the spirit of the Ukrainian people. They have left millions without heat and without power in the freezing winter. Within the last six months, Ireland has contributed €27 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund to support Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure. We call on Russia to stop these attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.

As a champion of global efforts to reduce hunger and starvation, rooted in our own historical experience, Ireland will continue to work with Ukraine, and our EU and international partners, to advocate for efforts that mitigate the wider consequences of the war in Ukraine, including on global food security. In November 2025, Ireland pledged €2 million in support towards the initiatives of the fourth International Summit on Food Security held in Kyiv.

The future of Ukraine lies within the EU. Ireland supports Ukraine’s ambition to become an EU Member State. We want to welcome Ukraine into the EU, and EU membership will be an important security guarantee for Ukraine.

For Ireland, the fundamental principle that borders cannot be changed by force must be upheld. Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence, based on respect for the principles of the UN Charter, must be protected.
