STASY: The first smart camera at the ISAP "Perissos" station for those without a ticket
Where will the next ones go?
Following the "smart" AI traffic cameras on the roads, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has begun a pilot to prevent ticket fraud on public transport. The first "smart" AI camera was placed above the ticket validation machines at the "Perissos" ISAP station .
The goal of installing the "smart" AI camera on the ISAP is to draw conclusions about the extent of ticket evasion, so that a more targeted control policy can be designed by STASY.
Furthermore, as part of the campaign against ticket fraud, fines have been tightened , increasing from 72 to 100 euros for a regular ticket , while for a reduced ticket from 30 to 50 euros.
At the same time, in cases of sabotage, such as the destruction of equipment at stations, ex officio prosecution is provided, while in incidents of violence against employees, ex officio criminal prosecution procedures are applied and the possibility of imposing community service, such as for damage restoration work.
The competent authorities emphasize that the emphasis of the AI camera is not on identifying people, but on statistically recording the points and time zones where increased ticket evasion is observed, in order to strengthen targeted controls.

The final farewell to Gogo Mastrokosta was emotional: Traianos Dellas held hands with his daughter, her mother and sister were devastated
Gogo Mastrokosta, Greek TV fitness personality, dies at 56
Gogo Mastrokosta, the former television personality and fitness instructor who became one of Greece’s most recognizable pop-culture icons of the 1990s, has died at 56 after a long battle with cancer.
Her death was confirmed early Monday by her daughter, Victoria, in a moving social media post. Mastrokosta had been hospitalized at Evangelismos Hospital in Athens, where local media reported she had been in critical condition and unconscious for the past two weeks.
Born in 1970 in a small village near Messolongi, on the western bank of the Evinos River, Mastrokosta rose to national prominence in 1995 on Mega TV. With her long blonde hair, athletic physique, and vibrant on-screen energy, she quickly became Greece’s definitive television aerobics instructor and a major s*x symbol of the era. Her programs drew massive ratings, and she became a staple on the covers of the country’s top lifestyle magazines.
As her career evolved, Mastrokosta branched out into singing, acting, and fashion design, remaining at the forefront of Greek show business throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s.
In 2008, shortly after giving birth to Victoria, Mastrokosta was diagnosed with breast cancer. Two years later, in 2010, she married former Greek soccer player Traianos Dellas, one of the heroes of Greece’s historic Euro 2004 triumph.
Following her diagnosis, Mastrokosta gradually withdrew from the spotlight. However, in increasingly rare and courageous television appearances, she spoke openly about her health struggles, using her platform to raise awareness among women about the vital importance of early cancer detection.

No more free rides on the Metro and buses - What has changed?
The tightening of controls on public transport in order to combat ticket evasion seems to be bearing fruit, as ticket validation increased sharply in the first four months of 2026.
Public transportation is at the center of the interventions of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport , while in addition to investments in upgrading the relevant infrastructure in Athens and Thessaloniki , great emphasis has recently been placed on tightening the control framework for ticket validation.
A characteristic of the effectiveness of the intensification of controls is the spectacular increase in ticket issuance . According to the most recent OASA report, between January and April 2026, a 25% increase was observed in ticket validations on Athens buses , while validations on the Metro also increased by almost 10%.
More specifically, ticket and card validations exceeded 113.5 million, with an impressive increase especially in road transport, but also in fixed-track transport. In buses, 34.7 million validations were recorded in the first four months of 2026 , while in the first four months of 2025 the corresponding number was 27.8 million.
In the metro, 78.9 million validations were counted in the first four months of 2026 , while in 2025, the corresponding number was 72.3 million, with an increase of 9.1%. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, during the same period, ticket checks were also intensified to combat tax evasion .
Specifically, the checks exceeded 3.48 million in the same period , which is almost double compared to the corresponding period last year. However, as we wrote a few days ago, in addition to the more intensive checks, the fine for those who do not "cut" a ticket is also expected to increase soon .
Unlike the previous regime, where the fine was defined as a multiple of the ticket price (which means that in practice it amounted to approximately 72 euros), a fixed amount of 100 euros is now established for passengers without a ticket and 50 euros for those entitled to a reduced fare.
The new regulation is included in Law 5290/2026 , which provides that the new fines begin two months after its publication in the Government Gazette.
