2nd African Film Week
21-27 February 2013
Greek Film Archive
the Embassies and Honorary Consulates of African countries accredited to the Hellenic Republic and The Film Archive, are organizing the second African Film Week.
Following the huge success of last year's first event, the second African Film Week will take place from 21 to 27 February 2013, once again at the Greek Film Archive in Kerameikos and the entrance will be free.
The opening will take place on Thursday, 21 February with the screening of the Moroccan film The 5th string, 2011 by Selema Bargach.
The public will have the opportunity to continue its journey through the African continent, and, by crossing geographical boundaries, will get to know even more films and documentaries, produced mostly between 2001 and 2012, two movies from 1992, as well as acclaimed and younger directors.
Throughout the course of the second African Film Week, twenty films will be screened, mainly fiction, but also documentaries, from eight African countries, thus enabling the public to become familiar with the cultural experiences of each country.
Specifically, the films to be screened are: Faith (2012), On the cultural routes of contemporary Angola (2010) and Live Cultures (2012) from Angola; Messages from the Sea (2010) and Nile Birds (2009) from Egypt; The Return of the Obelisk from Ethiopia (2007) ; Saikati I (1992), Saikati II (1992) from Kenya and a Greek-Kenyan co-production The Return of Lazarus (2012); The 5th string (2011) and Majid (2011) from Morocco; Broken Silence (2012) from Nigeria; Homecoming (2005), Secret Safari (2001), Beat the Drum (2006) and 100 years of the ANC history (2012) from South Africa; and Why me? (2011), Boxing (2012) and Waya Rayé (2011) from Tunisia.

11th African Food, Music and Handicrafts Festival

The African Embassies and Honorary Consulates accredited to the Hellenic Republic in collaboration with the communities invite you to the “11th African Food, Music and Handicrafts Festival” to be held on 12 and 13 May 2012 at the gardens of the South African Official Residence, Diamantidou 5, Paleo Psychico.
The African countries participating in the festival will be showcasing and promoting the rich and diverse African culture and heritage including cuisine, handicrafts, music, dance and fashion show.
The African kiosks namely, Algeria, Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, DR Congo Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda will be placed on the garden of the South African official residence, offering visitors a chance to acquaint themselves with the customs of each country, while handicrafts and clothing will be available.
The garden will also accommodate tables and chairs where visitors will have an opportunity to taste and enjoy various African cuisine and drinks.
The funds raised from the 11th African Food, Music and Handicraft Festival will be donated, as usual to a charity organisation. In this regard, the funds that were raised during the last African Festival which took place in May 2011 were donated to “Smile of the Child” and “World Pharmacists”.
