As the Ambassador of Austria to Greece, I sincerely thank “ΤΟ ΒΗΜΑ” for the opportunity to participate in this insightful and thought-provoking conversation, and to reflect on the rich and multifaceted relationship between Austria and Greece—shaped by enduring historical ties, vibrant cultural and economic exchanges, cooperation on key European challenges such as migration, Greece’s renowned hospitality, and the wide range of emerging investment opportunities that continue to further enrich our close and forward-looking bilateral cooperation within a rapidly evolving European context.

My warmest congratulations to the Arsakeia Schools of Psychiko, the teachers, and the students for the outstanding organization, artistic quality, and creativity of the highly successful tribute to Johann Strauss II, held on Monday, 18 May 2026, marking 200 years since his birth and 190 years since the founding of the Society for the Promotion of Education and Learning.
The students presented an excellent artistic program of waltzes, theatrical scenes, a hypothetical dialogue between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Strauss, and a moving finale with the “Blue Danube” waltz.
This tribute was a wonderful celebration of Johann Strauss II’s legacy and a fine example of cultural education and European artistic dialogue.

A heartfelt thank you to the students, teachers, and especially the Head of School Mrs. Ioanna-Evdokia Patsilinakou of the 1st Arsakeio Junior High School of Psychiko for a memorable visit at the Austrian residence on 15 May 2026.
In the framework of the school’s Johann Strauss II Project, the students interviewed Ambassador Gerda Vogl in German and presented an inspiring live musical performances 🎶 that filled the residence with a warm atmosphere, bringing culture and youth engagement together so beautifully.

On 19 May 2026, Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias participated in the Europa Forum Wachau held in Krems, Austria, upon invitation by his Austrian counterpart Minister Klaudia Tanner to discuss European security.
Talks focused on Europe’s evolving security environment, the need for strategic autonomy and collective defence, and the strengthening of defence innovation, industrial capacity, and technological readiness, as well as reinforcing European solidarity and cooperation in the face of hybrid and geopolitical threats.

A great pleasure to meet with Minister Όλγα Κεφαλογιάννη / Olga Kefalogianni at the Ministry of Tourism and exchange views on strengthening tourism cooperation between Austria and Greece.
