Georges Perec, 1974

"Feel better?" Michael asks.
"I guess" I say.
And I do, except for the dream. It stays with me, a bruise in the memory that hurts when I touch it.

"Yes, I love vulgarity. I claim it loud and clear. I love it because only it says what we are, without the hideous masks we wear by nature, which turn us into mean beings, hypocrites, ceaselessly running after decency, a quality I couldn't care less about." 'African Psycho', Alain Mabanckou II (2003)

"They are still quite new at this, but they know what to do. they put it together out of what they've read in books and seen in magazines, out of dreams, instinct, in imitation of the others, the very few, they've been with. Her lips are always soft, barely parted at first. This excites him deeply, the patience she insists upon, the way she opens to him only slowly. She sets their rhythm, yields a little, then a little more, and once she is open and gaping, she exacts submission from him in return, plunging into his mouth, licking roughly. Then she is tender and soft again. She leads, then she lets him lead. They are young, they can kiss and press against each other for hours, gradually twisting out their clothing. For other acts there is plenty of time, all the time in the world." 'The Virgins', Pamela Erens (2013)

Jonathan Basile: Who’s Afraid of AAARG? 12/09/2016

"The humanities possess no less social value, even if it is not always measurable in economic terms.[...] As long as the academic publishing industry remains in opposition to the goals of the authors and readers it is meant to bring together, those interested in learning will continue to congregate outside its confines, by means of a platform like AAARG or one still to come. I’ve often considered it a strange, capitalist perversion of the will that artists and authors fight to prevent people from viewing their work."

“Even her footsteps did not seem to belong to her. The night seized and transformed them, just as it transformed the greenhouses they passed from useful places for growing things into cold night palaces.”

In Solidarity with Library Genesis and Sci-hub 02/12/2015

"We are all custodians of knowledge, custodians of the same infrastructures that we depend on for producing knowledge, custodians of our fertile but fragile commons. To be a custodian is, de facto, to download, to share, to read, to write, to review, to edit, to digitize, to archive, to maintain libraries, to make them accessible. It is to be of use to, not to make property of, our knowledge commons. [...] Care for the libraries - care for the metadata - care for the backup. Water the flowers - clean the volcanoes."

In Solidarity with Library Genesis and Sci-hub Share this letter - read it in public - leave it in the printer. Share your writing - digitize a book - upload your files. Don't let our knowledge be crushed. Care for the libraries - care for the metadata - care for the backup. Water the flowers - clean the volcanoes.
