Kite Distribution

In anticipation for the Easter Holiday
Starting from April 6th to April 8th , 2023 Deputy Commander, Superintendent L.Withrite , ASP Gordon , W/Inspector David, and other ranks of Regional Division #5 distributed numerous kites across the region.

The kite distribution was done in the following areas;
Blairmont station district
Fort Wellington W.C.B
#22 Belair W.C.B
#28 and union W.C.B
Belladrum
Weldaad
Perth Village Mahaicony
Central Mahaicony

The children were in awe, smiles, and excitement when they received their kites.

This is in keeping with the Force mandate of being a good corporate citizen and a better social entity.

They were wished a happy Easter and were reminded to use play fields or an open space to fly their kites.

Breakfast morning

In keeping with our community relations and partnership drive, on Tuesday April 4th between 08:00hrs and 09:00hrs Weldaad, Mahaicony and Blairmont police station, all of Regional Division #5 hosted a breakfast morning.

The breakfast morning commenced at the post offices in the various station district and was distributed to the senior citizens also to the less fortunate along Rosignol public road

The aim of this activity is to strengthen the bonds of unity and partnership between the police and the communities.

Lecture to School

On Wednesday 29th March 2023 between 09:10 hours and 09:50 hours, Sergeant 19581 Grant from the Regional Division # 5 Headquarters and Corporal 23637 Smith conducted a lecture to Latchman Singh Primary School

The following topics were discussed:

1. Flying of kites along the roadways are prohibited.

2. Playing along the roadways are prohibited.

3. Persons must not walk more than two abreast.

4. The use of Electric Cycles by children.

5. The requirements for pedal cycle.

6. Kerb drill

7. Discipline

On completion Corporal Smith wished the students and teachers a Happy Easter and distributed kites to students who answered questions. They were then reminded to use play fields or a open space to fly their kites.

In attendance were 286 students and 23 teachers.

On Tuesday 28th March 2023, between 13:30 hours and 13:50 hours, Corporal 23637 Smith and Constable 25290 Fraser conducted a lecture to Bath Settlement Primary and the following topics were discussed:

1. Flying of kites along the roadways are prohibited.

2. Playing along the roadways are prohibited.

3. Persons must not walk more than two abreast.

4. The use of Electric Cycles by children.

5. The requirements for pedal cycle.

6. Kerb drill

7. Hand signals by Policemen or women.

On completion Corporal Smith wished the students and teachers a Happy Easter and reminded them to use play fields or a open space to fly their kites.

In attendance they were 482 students, 30 teachers and 6 assistant teachers.

53rd Republic Flag Raising Ceremony

Scenes from the Flag Raising Ceremony which was held at Regional Democratic compound, Fort Wellington W.CB on Wednesday evening 16:00(4pm)

Under the team “Mixing and Mashing as One Guyana” various talent piece were done by some of the various ethnic groups

Hon. Bishop Juan Edghill - Minister of Public Works delivered the Feature Address.

As we celebrate Guyana’s rich cultural and heritage, let us remember that unity is the way forward

In keeping with the Men On Mission and our partnership initiative, on Wednesday 22nd February 2023, Commander Region 5, Assistant Commissioner Kurleigh Simon, on behalf of the Division donated footballs and volleyballs to the Bush Lot Secondary.

This aimed at incorporating sports into the school curriculum and aid sports development and talent spotting. Mr. Rasheed Karim, the Physical Education teacher received the items on behalf of the school and expressed gratitude on behalf of the school.

In keeping with our Community Relations and Partnership drive, on Tuesday 21st February,2023 Commander Region 5, Assistant Commissioner Kurleigh Simon, on behalf of Regional Division #5 donated the 1st and 2nd prize to Guyana National Cadet Core (GNCC) annual raffle.

1st prize Bicycle
2nd prize cellular phone

On behalf of GNCC the following persons received the prize;

Deputy Commander, Superintendent Guy Nurse, handed over the prizes on behalf of the Division.

Muster/Inspection Conducted

Regional Police Division #5 Commander Mr. Kurleigh Simon on Saturday 18th February, 2023 between 07:00hrs and 08:30hrs, held an Inspection and Muster with Inspectors and junior ranks of Regional Police Division #5 at Fort Wellington Secondary School tarmac.
Also in attendance were Deputy Commander Superintendent G. Nurse, Superintendent L.Withrite, W/ASP C.Kelly, ASP C.Hooke and ASP S.Muruguyya.

An Interfaith Service was also conducted between 8:40 hrs and 9:30 hrs. The Inter-Faith sermon were carried on by Pandit Dindra, Imam Abu Huriah and Pastor Neapaul. Scripture reading was done by W/Const 23407 Adams and W/Const 23053 Abel and special song by Ms Esther.

Thereafter, the ranks were briefed on the following topics;
1. Crime strategy
2. Traffic Strategy
3. Operational Issues
4. Accountability
5. Confidentiality
6. Professional Conduct
7. Administrative Issues

Lecture held

On Thursday 16th February, 2023 between 10:40 hrs and 12:00 hrs 16821 Sergeant Mars a Prosecutor attached to Fort Wellington Police Station Court Superintendent Office, carried out an educational lecture to the 4th and 5th form students of Belladrum Secondary School.

The educational lecture was based on the Judiciary System ( Branch of Government)

The following topics were discussed;

1. How the Judiciary system work
2. The types of court
3. Function of the types of court
4. Case Jackets
5. Types of law
6. Cyber Crime
7. Juvenile Justice system

To conclude, a student extended gratitude to the Police Prosecutor for taking time off to impart such knowledge.
