The role of NCERD in a Decentralized Education Management system is to provide professional support.

A two- day Geography CSEC training was conducted on October 15-16 by the National Centre for Educational Resource Development ( NCERD). The aim of the training was to strengthen teachers' capacity in geographical skills including map reading, SBA preparation, applying effective teaching strategies to make Geography lessons engaging, practical and relevant to students, identify common student challenges and develop interventions to improve performance at the CSEC level. Thirty-three teachers from regions 2, 7, 8 , 9 and Georgetown participated in the training.
The sessions were facilited by Mrs. Fazia Baksh- DCEO School Support Services.

NCERD hosted a cancer awareness session on Monday, 19th October 2026, in observance of Cancer Awareness Month. The session was facilitated by Dr. Hussain from GPHC who did an excellent job delivering an informative and engaging presentation. Staff members asked questions that were answered with clarity and professionalism. On that same day over 10 female staff members were brave enough to have their mammograms done at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.

NCERD extends sincere appreciation to Dr. Hussain and encourages persons to get screened. It was quick and easy. Together we can support each other and kick cancer!

The Ministry of Education, through NCERD, successfully trained all Grade 5 teachers across the three sub-regions of Region One from October 12–16, 2026.

The training focused on strengthening teachers’ knowledge, skills, and pedagogical practices to effectively implement the Revised Grade Five Curriculum across the four core subject areas.

Through interactive sessions, collaboration, and practical activities, teachers were equipped with strategies to enhance classroom instruction, improve learner engagement, and support improved learning outcomes. The Ministry remains committed to providing continuous training to all teachers to ensure that they are competent in curriculum delivery.

Education Officers from the Ministry of Education, through NCERD, participated in an eight-week International Human Rights Law Certificate Course implemented by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance. The course explored key human rights conventions, Guyana’s constitutional framework, children’s rights, equality, and contemporary human rights issues. The knowledge gained will support Education Officers in promoting inclusive, fair, and rights-based practices within the education system.

Empowering Teachers through AI and Innovative Pedagogy!
The Ministry of Education, through the NCERD IT Unit, successfully conducted a two-day AI and Pedagogy Workshop for 72 primary school teachers in Region 3, facilitated by Mr. Randolph Samaroo, Senior Education Officer – IT Curriculum.
Teachers explored practical ways to use Artificial Intelligence for lesson planning, differentiated instruction, and engaging classroom activities. They also gained hands-on experience creating Open Educational Resources (OERs) to enhance classroom practices.

𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 $𝟖𝟏𝐌 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐀𝐏𝐄 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬

A total of $81,090,000.00 was handed out to CAPE students as part of the 2026 Because We Care Cash Grant.

While previous grades have already received their grants, October 2, 2026, was dedicated to Grades 12 and 13, with 954 students receiving theirs.

Each student received $85,000, which includes the $60,000 Because We Care Student Grant, the $20,000 newly introduced Annual Transportation Support Grant and the $5,000 uniform voucher allowance.

This distribution forms part of the Government's $17.5 billion Budget 2026 allocation, ensuring continued support for students in both private and public schools nationwide.
