Yesterday our Country Director Alex Dane Fraser, participated in the celebration of history of the Enmore Martyrs. The five sugar workers who were shot and killed by colonial police on June 16 1948.

As we commemorate our 60th Diamond Jubilee Independence Anniversary, I extend my heartfelt wishes for a joyous independence to all Guyanese. Independence signifies more than mere celebration; it serves as a moment for us to contemplate the struggles endured by our ancestors. The journey was fraught with challenges for them, yet it is noteworthy that Guyana achieved freedom prior to 1966.

In 1953, the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) secured a decisive victory in the nation’s inaugural elections. They established the government and vigorously advocated for internal self-governance and independence. However, under pressure from the United States, Britain suspended the constitution and deployed troops a mere 133 days after the PPP administration assumed power. The British forcibly removed the legally elected government.

Our ancestors did not relent; they persisted in their quest for freedom, driven by the desire for a better life for all citizens of Guyana. Finally, on May 26, 1966, Guyana attained independence from British rule, a full 13 years later. Thus, today’s 60th Independence Anniversary serves as a reminder that we must remain steadfast, continuing to collaborate and forge One Guyana, where unity, togetherness, and harmony prevail.

On this significant day, we reflect on the pivotal actions taken by our forefathers to declare Guyana’s independence, which would hold no meaning unless we celebrate the vision of unity and freedom for which they fought. Wishing a happy 60th Diamond Jubilee Independence Day to Guyana, may the courage and resilience of our ancestors continue to motivate us in our pursuit of a brighter future.

Country Director Alex Dane Fraser took part in the Guyana 60th Diamond Jubilee Independence Anniversary celebration at the Regional Democratic Council Region 5.

World Day for Cultural Diversity serves as a significant reminder of the importance of cultural diversity in fostering mutual respect and understanding among different communities. Established by the United Nations, this day encourages individuals and societies to celebrate their unique cultural heritages while promoting dialogue and cooperation. It highlights the value of cultural diversity in enhancing social cohesion and sustainable development, urging people to recognize and appreciate the rich tapestry of human expression that contributes to our global identity.

We would like to wish all Mothers a very happy Mother's Day, filled with love and happiness.

Country Director Alex Dane Fraser participated in the commemoration of Indian Arrival Day organized by the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, held in Palmyra, Berbice. This event marks 188 years since the arrival of Indians in Guyana, under the theme Celebrating our Culture, Our Heritage, Our Traditions.
