MORAWHANNA WOMEN GAIN FIRST SHADE HOUSE
Through the support of the Greater Guyana Initiative (GGI), the women of Morawhanna will soon have their first shade house.
This green enterprise will grow celery and shallot to supply the agro-processing facility across the river, where it will be dehydrated, flaked, and blended with wiriwiri pepper flakes—forming Region 1’s very own SpiceMix.
The Greater Guyana Initiative is a USD100 million investment by the Stabroek Block co-venturers—ExxonMobil Guyana, Hess Guyana Exploration, and CNOOC Petroleum Guyana.

Thanks to the Guyana Conservation Initiative (GCI) four of our female leaders of the Barima Mora Passage Communities are in Iwokrama where they are learning about Natural Resources Governance, EcoTourism and Homestays which we are promoting so our community members can benefit directly. The group will visit Atta Lodge to learn about partnerships with a environmental NGO, Community and Private Sector, Surama to learn about Community Tourism and the homes of community members who are offering homestays in Surama.
Partnerships making it all possible.🇬🇾

Dr Ravi Cummings who is from Region 1 has very generously facilitated two of our young drone pilots from Aruka Community in a collaborative drone training program with NAREI. Alex and Brendon Mendonca will be Dr Cummings local counterparts from the Barima Mora Passage. He is presently teaching them to analyze data from the drones and introducing them to multispectral droning techniques. This will build on their drone skills which was made possible earlier in the year by the Blue Social Challenge Fund thanks to Jane Miller . Partnerships making it all possible.🇬🇾
