It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I learned of the sudden passing of Ms. Carol Trim-Bagot, a PPP/C Councillor on the New Amsterdam town council, and the Founder and President of the Organisation for Social and Health Advancement in Guyana (OSHAG).
Just two days ago, I had the privilege of joining Carol and the OSHAG team in Berbice for their Breast Cancer Awareness concert. On that occasion, I had the opportunity to express my deep admiration and gratitude for the extraordinary work she was doing. As I shared with her and the audience that evening, it was not merely about the beautiful concert and the gathering, but about her quiet, dedicated work being carried out day after day across our communities, educating people, empowering families to uplift themselves, conducting training programs, and enlightening citizens on how to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Carol was a true beacon of grassroots advocacy and a compassionate community activist. Through her leadership, OSHAG grew into a lifeline for countless individuals and families. From mobile community health clinics and wellness checkups in under-resourced areas to monthly community kitchens, youth mentorship workshops, and child educational spaces, Carol brought hope and tangible support directly to the people who needed it most.
Whether serving the people of New Amsterdam in her capacity as Town Councillor or spearheading community-driven health initiatives across the region, Carol exemplified what it means to lead from the heart.
Her passing leaves an immense void in New Amsterdam, across Region Six, and throughout Guyana’s civil society.
On behalf of myself, the Region Six PPP/C family, and the Government of Guyana, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Carol’s family, her loved ones, her colleagues on the New Amsterdam Town Council, and the entire OSHAG fraternity.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
