“With you all gathered here, I trust the conversation won’t just be administrative but that of the blue economy. We must also confront a sobering reality. We have frequently remind that if there is to be another world war, it will not be fought over land or oil; it will be fought over water.
Water is important. Because water is so vital, we cannot afford to take a passive approach to its stewardship. Therefore, let there be time dedicated to sustained discussions that focus specifically on developing and safeguarding our water resources.”

Also present was Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Deodat Indar and Member of Parliament, Thandi McAlister, among other regional directors and heads, including President of the Shipping Association of Guyana, Komal Singh. This is the first time the meeting is being held in Guyana.

Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill joined First Lady,Her Excellency Arya Ali, to open the gates of the Diamond-Grove Recreational Park.

In just six months, a promise made to the residents of the Diamond-Grove Community by the First Lady, is now a reality, waiting to birth core memories and foster close-nit family bonds on the modern recreational space.

This new space is as a result of partnership, with the Ministry being one of the many partners. While delivering brief remarks, Minister Edghill emphasized what was once seen as a junkyard, decorated by garbage and debris is now a transformed family friendly, recreational space, thanks to the vision of the First Lady, Arya Ali.

“This is one of the largest NDCs in terms of space as well as population. Being here with the First Lady to open such an elaborate park is sending the right signal that the PPP/C government will not just develop urban centers where the majority of people will visit, but we are characterized by a people- oriented approach; that we are not doing things for the show but for the benefit of the people. This is intentional for the people, it will not only be contributing to the beautification journey but also health and wellness as well as family time”. Minister Edghill stated.

The recreational space will serve some 30,000 persons within the Diamond- Grove Community. It features slides, swings, see-saws, a multipurpose court, an outdoor gym area as well as food spaces. A multipurpose recreational facility will also be added to the space.
