The Museum of African Art and Ethnology was founded in the year 1985 with the purchase of the collections of African Art of Mr. Hubert H. Nicholson and Mrs.

The Museum of African Heritage is a non-profit institution, created by the Government of Guyana to collect, preserve, exhibit, research art and artifacts relating to Africa and the African experience in Guyana.
