The Pesticides and Toxic Chemicals Control Board (PTCCB) recently conducted Pesticide Awareness Training sessions for ranks of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) at Camp Ayanganna, Georgetown, on June 4, 2026, and Camp Stephenson, Timehri, on June 5, 2026.

The sessions focused on the safe use, handling, and management of pesticides, providing participants with practical knowledge to minimize risks to human health and the environment.

Through continued awareness and education initiatives, PTCCB remains committed to promoting the responsible use of pesticides and strengthening chemical safety across Guyana.

Mibicuri, Black Bush Polder, Region Six!

The work continues! Our team was on the ground on June 3 and 4, 2026, conducting the registration exercise for pesticide and toxic chemical storage cabinets. Through this initiative, every farmer in Black Bush Polder will receive a storage cabinet.

Together, we're advancing safer chemical storage practices and supporting a healthier, safer agricultural sector.

The Pesticides and Toxic Chemicals Control Board (PTCCB) continued the distribution of chemical storage cabinets to farmers of Lesbeholden, Black Bush Polder, Region Six, on June 3 and 4, 2026.

Approximately $35 million has been invested in this initiative, which will benefit every farmer in Black Bush Polder. The intervention forms part of a broader effort to ensure agricultural chemicals are stored in a safe and secure manner, helping to protect farmers, their families, communities, and the environment.

TRAINING || On May 20, 2026, the Pesticides and Toxic Chemicals Control Board (PTCCB), in collaboration with the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI) and the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, conducted a training session at the Mahaica Learning Lab.

The training focused on raising awareness and strengthening knowledge on the safe use, handling, and management of pesticides and toxic chemicals.

Pesticides storage cabinets and personal protective equipment were also distributed to support the safe storage and handling of pesticides and toxic chemicals.

This initiative forms part of PTCCB’s continued commitment to education, capacity building, and the promotion of safe management of chemicals across the country.

TRAINING || The Pesticides and Toxic Chemicals Control Board (PTCCB), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Unit, recently executed a Pesticide Awareness Training programme aimed at enhancing teachers’ knowledge on the safe use, handling, and storage of pesticides.

During the training sessions, participants were sensitized on proper pesticide handling practices, safe storage procedures, the importance of reading labels and understanding warning symbols, the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and the potential effects of improper pesticide use on human health and the environment. To further support safe pesticide management practices within schools, pesticide storage cabinets were distributed to participating institutions.

The schools targeted under this initiative were St. Rose’s High School, North Ruimveldt Secondary School, West Ruimveldt Secondary School, St. Stanislaus College, South Ruimveldt Secondary School, The New Central High School, The New Campbellville Secondary School, Sophia PIC, Brickdam Secondary School, The New City Secondary School, Dolphins Secondary School, One Mile Secondary School, Christiansburg Secondary School, New Silvercity Secondary School, and Mackenzie High School.

The PTCCB remains committed to collaborating with key stakeholders to strengthen awareness and encourage responsible pesticide management practices nationwide.
