Chinese Cultural Studies Center 承真樓

On April 29, 2022, the International Conference on Incense Culture was successfully held via Zoom. The conference was jointly organized by Chinese Cultural Studies Center and the History Department of Hong Kong Shue Yan University, with supporting organizers Chinese Incense Culture Studies Center, Centre for Chinese Studies of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, and the Hong Kong Association of Registered Tour Co-ordinators. In total, there were presentations from ten scholars, from Russia, mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Malaysia. Presentations covered the study of incense culture in East Asia, including topics such as the use of incense in Malaysian Buddhist temples, Na Tuk Kong incense use, incense wood in ancient Hong Kong, and many more interesting topics. We thank all those who participated, and for their contribution to enriching understanding and dialogue on incense culture.

於2022年4月29日成功舉辦，因應疫情關係，講座以zoom形式進行。本次講座由香港真承樓中國文化研究中心和香港樹仁大學歷史系聯合主辦，而協辦單位包括中國香文化研究會、馬來西亞拉曼大學中華研究學院、香港註冊導遊協會。
講者來自不同國家和地區，包括俄羅斯、越南、 馬來西亞 、中國內地、香港和台灣等等。
講座內容涵蓋東亞香文化的研究，包括馬來西亞佛教寺廟用香、那督公甘文煙香文化、古代香港的香木等等很多有趣的主題。
我們感謝所有講者和參與者，為推廣香文化所做出的貢獻。

早於6月30日舉辦的「傳拓工作坊」經已順利結束，非常感激@nohouseunderthesun 日光之下齋馮朗渢生先以及 張錦發先生到訪承真樓傳授傳拓技術與其相關知識。

傳拓，是中國保留文物的一種方式，運用紙張及墨水將器物表面的花紋拓印出來。
這個方式拓印出來的作品黑白分明，不會受到光影或者銹跡的影響，方便觀察者了解器物的真貌，因此傳拓技術在考古學界仍然有着舉足輕重的地位。

開幕當日參與展覽的藝術家匯聚一堂（圖一），到場分享作品心得，更有不少城中名人到訪欣賞作品，如霍啟剛先先、李純恩先生（圖三），以及高志森先生等（圖四）。

是次展覽日期為6月28日至7月26日，歡迎各地朋友到場參觀，各位的支持是對本地藝術家的一份鼓勵。

"The Flow of Ink" is an exhibition of contemporary Chinese ink paintings which focuses on the different creative approaches adopted by artists to enrich a traditional art form with modern elements. Each artist has their own unique background and experiences, a myriad of subtle differences that individualizes artistic expression. Through this exhibition, we hope to deepen appreciation of tradition and heritage while inspiring new ideas and new paths for artists across different media and paradigms.

Wishing you all a Happy Lunar New Year! This year there might be fewer lion dances to watch, but here are some fun facts about this lively tradition!

Lion Dance is a well-known tradition that is performed during Chinese New Year.

Did you know that there are Northern and Southern types of lion dance? The Northern version features semi-realistic, shaggy-haired costumes, while the Southern interpretation – which originated in Guangdong and is the type most commonly seen around the world – is more fantastical in appearance, often with oversized costumes and bright, bold colours. The Southern version can further be divided into the Fut San and Hok San disciplines; the former is based mainly on kung fu moves, while the latter is more playful and expressive. There are several other minor styles and regional variations, too, while Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, Korea and Tibet also have their own varieties of lion dances.

For the Southern version, the mirror between the lion’s eyes is meant to scare away evil spirits and the horn in the centre of its forehead is for fighting evil; as such, it’s considered bad luck for spectators to touch either of these adornments. The red ribbon commonly tied around the lion’s horn, meanwhile, denotes that it has been blessed and awakened to pay respect to the gods, while even the colour of the costume has meaning, offering clues as to the age and the character of the lion.
