[Multi-Cultural Service Sharing & Community Walk in Wan Chai] 🛕🕌
DESIMO Culture has organized a Multi-Cultural Service Sharing & Community Walk in Wan Chai for Hong Kong Christian Service in March for the professionals from the social welfare and education sectors. We visited various religious sites such as Happy Valley Hindu Mandir 🕉️, Oi Kwan Masjid ☪️, and Sikh Temple 🪯 to understand the early history of South Asians in HK, rituals and taboos of different religions, and the life of ethnically-diverse communities in HK.
We had our visits and observations with the principle of making minimal disturbance to the users of those religious premises, and respect the rituals and practices of different religions. This is a significant value in the practice and development of multi-cultural services, and it also fits into the principles of respect diversity and the promotion of “Culturally Responsive Service Framework” in the “C-for-Chinese@JC” project.
Lastly, we treasure every moment for learning different cultural elements. Stories and historical backgrounds of Parsee Cemetery, Muslim Cemetery, The Happy Valley Racecourse Fire and the development of social service in Oi Kwan Road were told during travelling from one spots to another.
