We rejoice as we welcome the return of Mary Jane Veloso to the Philippines.
Migrante Hong Kong, along with its partner organizations, calls on President Marcos Jr. to grant full and absolute clemency to Mary Jane Veloso, and let her family meet her at the airport and not in jail.
Fourteen years ago, the Filipino people stood together, united in prayer and solidarity, to save Mary Jane Veloso from death row. Migrante with its counterparts worldwide and Mary Jane’s family, relentlessly fought for justice.
It has long been established that Mary Jane is a victim of human trafficking. Thus, the need for compassion and justice in her case. With Mary Jane's return, she deserves to be granted full freedom.

Bethune House needs you!
We humbly appeal to your kindness and compassion to help us raise HK$1 million in order to sustain our operations until the end of the year. This would cover rent and utilities for our two shelters and provide food and other necessities such as personal hygiene items, medical needs, visa extension fees, transportation, and documentation during their legal processes.
For the past 38 years, the Bethune House has been the longest-running charitable shelter for migrant women in Hong Kong who find themselves homeless, jobless, vulnerable, distressed, or abused.
Every week, more than five distressed migrant women seek refuge from us. We accommodate up to 30 of these women daily and more than 680 annually.
To donate, please scan the QR code or visit the Bethune House Linktree: https://linktr.ee/bethunehousehk. (We can receive donations through Alipay, TNG, FPS, direct bank transfer and DonorBox.
Thank you for your support to Bethune House and the distressed migrant women we serve!

Cynthia Caridad Abdon-Tellez is the founder and Managing Director of the Mission For Migrant Workers (MFMW). Through her commitment to the rights and well-being of migrant workers, she has left an indelible mark on Hong Kong and beyond. Cynthia's four decades of dedicated service have transformed the lives of countless women migrant workers facing adversity.
Establishing MFMW in 1981, Cynthia recognized the urgent need for support among foreign domestic workers, many of whom were trapped in cycles of exploitation and abuse. Her unwavering leadership has enabled MFMW to provide essential services to over 380,000 foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong. Through her advocacy, Cynthia has shed light on the challenges faced by these workers, 98% of whom are women from underdeveloped countries. Her efforts extend to addressing issues of underpayment, overwork, debt, discrimination, and even physical and sexual abuse.
Cynthia's profound impact is not only in the critical services MFMW provides but in her role as a catalyst for empowerment. She has empowered migrant women to rise above victimhood and become advocates and leaders themselves. Under her guidance, grassroots migrant organizations and unions have flourished in Hong Kong, creating a united front for asserting rights and advocating for change.
Cynthia's legacy extends beyond the direct services of MFMW. Her integrity, dedication, and transformative leadership have inspired the establishment of other migrant support institutions and crisis centers. Her life's work is a testament to the power of compassion, resilience, and advocacy.
