PrestaShop vs OpenCart: European roots vs global open-source ecommerce 08/06/2026

PrestaShop or OpenCart which would you choose in 2026? ๐Ÿ›’

I came across this detailed comparison that breaks down two of the most established open-source ecommerce platforms outside Shopify and Magento:
๐Ÿ‘‰ https://ecommerceviews.com/prestashop-vs-opencart-european-roots-vs-global-open-source-ecommerce/

The short version:
โ€ข PrestaShop = stronger for European merchants (VAT, multi-language, multi-store depth)
โ€ข OpenCart = lighter, cheaper, easier to launch globally

But I'd love to hear from people with real-world experience:
๐Ÿ”น Which platform have you used and would you use it again?
๐Ÿ”น Has the Symfony migration made PrestaShop better or just more complex?
๐Ÿ”น Is OpenCart underrated in the European market?

Drop your thoughts below ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿซ Choosing an English kindergarten in Hong Kong? Read this before you apply! ๐Ÿ‘‡

If you're a parent starting to look at English kindergartens in HK for 2026, you're not alone and it can feel overwhelming! There are hundreds of options across the city, costs vary massively, and the application timelines start WAY earlier than most people realise.

We came across this really helpful guide that breaks everything down in plain language, so we wanted to share it with the group ๐Ÿ’›

Here's what it covers:
๐Ÿ“š Curriculum types explained โ€” Montessori, IB PYP, Reggio Emilia, British EYFS, local HK curriculum with English medium, and play-based approaches. What they actually mean and which suits your child.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Real costs โ€” from subsidised local kindergartens at HK$20,000โ€“$60,000/year right up to premium international schools at HK$300,000/year. Plus the hidden costs parents often miss (capital levies, debentures, uniforms).

๐Ÿ“… Application timelines โ€” this is the big one. If your child is turning 3 in 2027, applications at many popular schools are already open NOW. Don't get caught out!

๐Ÿ“ Area-by-area breakdown โ€” Mid-Levels, Kowloon Tong, Sha Tin, Tseung Kwan O, Discovery Bay and more.

โœ… What to look for teacher qualifications, class sizes, language environment (some "English-medium" schools operate mostly in Cantonese so visit and LISTEN!), feeder school relationships and more.

โŒ Common mistakes parents make including waiting too long, applying to just one school, and ignoring the daily commute on your child.

One tip from the guide that really stood out: start building your shortlist before your child turns 2. The most popular schools fill up fast!

๐Ÿ’ฐ Cost of Living in HK โ€” Tips & Tricks to Save More Every Month! ๐Ÿ’ฐ

Let's be honest, Hong Kong isn't cheap! But there are plenty of ways to stretch your dollar (or HKD ๐Ÿ˜„) if you know where to look. Here are some tried-and-tested tips for expats:

๐Ÿ›’ GROCERIES & FOOD
โ€ข Shop at Wet Markets instead of supermarkets you'll pay significantly less for fresh produce, meat and fish. Sheung Wan, Wan Chai and Mong Kok all have great ones.
โ€ข ParknShop and Wellcome often have member discounts and weekly deals worth downloading their apps.
โ€ข PriceSpy HK and OpenRice are great for comparing restaurant prices before you head out.

๐Ÿš‡ TRANSPORT
โ€ข Always use an Octopus Card it's cheaper than buying single journey tickets every time.
โ€ข The MTR is one of the most affordable metro systems in the world, so use it over taxis wherever possible.
โ€ข Green minibuses are even cheaper than the MTR on many routes!

๐Ÿ  HOUSING
โ€ข If you're renewing a lease, don't be afraid to negotiate landlords would often rather drop the rent slightly than find a new tenant.
โ€ข Consider areas like Quarry Bay, Kennedy Town or Lai Chi Kok for more affordable flats that still have great MTR access.

๐ŸŽ‰ ENTERTAINMENT
โ€ข Hong Kong has tons of FREE things to do hiking trails, beaches, temples and harbourfront walks won't cost you a cent.
โ€ข Check out Klook for discounted activities, restaurants and experiences around the city.
โ€ข Many museums offer free admission on Wednesdays!

๐Ÿ“ฑ UTILITIES & BILLS
โ€ข SIM-only mobile plans in HK are incredibly cheap you can get solid data plans for as little as $100โ€“150 HKD/month.
โ€ข Compare electricity plans if you're in a building that allows it it adds up over time.

Hope this helps, especially for those of you who are newer to the city! Drop your own tips in the comments the more the merrier! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿœโœจ Hidden Gem Alert, Expats! โœจ๐Ÿœ

Okay, I think I've just found our new favourite spot โ€” The Lantern Room, tucked away on a quiet side street in Sheung Wan (just off Hollywood Road).

It's a cosy little izakaya-style bar and kitchen that somehow manages to feel like a best-kept secret even though it's been open a few months. The vibe is warm and low-key think exposed brick, soft lighting, and great playlist choices.

Must-tries:
๐ŸฅŸ Pan-fried pork & ginger dumplings (seriously addictive)
๐Ÿบ Their rotating craft beer selection all local HK breweries
๐Ÿฎ Yuzu custard dessert don't skip it!

Prices are super reasonable for the area you're looking at around $150โ€“250 HKD per head including drinks. Perfect for a midweek catch-up or a lazy Sunday session.

They don't take reservations, so go early or be prepared to grab a drink at the bar while you wait (no hardship there ๐Ÿ˜„).

Has anyone else been? Would love to hear your thoughts! ๐Ÿ™Œ

AI shopping is changing how customers discover products.
People are no longer only searching on Google or browsing store categories. They are asking ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and other AI tools for product recommendations, comparisons, and buying advice.
That creates a new challenge for online stores:
If AI tools cannot read, access, or understand your product data, your store may be invisible in the next stage of ecommerce discovery.
That is why we are introducing EcomAiBridge for OpenCart.
EcomAiBridge connects your OpenCart store to:
โœ… An AI Chat Widget
โœ… MCP Server support
โœ… JSON REST API access
โœ… Product data visibility for AI apps
โœ… Easier connection with tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and more
With EcomAiBridge, your products can become easier for AI systems to access, understand, and recommend.
This is not just about adding another extension to your store. It is about preparing your ecommerce business for how customers are starting to search, compare, and shop through AI.
If your store is already built on OpenCart, EcomAiBridge helps you move one step closer to AI-ready ecommerce.
The future of product discovery is not only search engines.
It is AI.
