📍 Next stop: Antalya.

We’re heading to COY21 (5–7 November) and COP31 (9–20 November) in Türkiye, with teachers, artists, researchers and young people from around the world.

Our programme is built around three ideas, Learn, Create and Connect, with events, activities and opportunities to get involved in each.

A few highlights:

📚 Learn: 25 UK schools are working with 25 schools in Türkiye, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, alongside the University of Exeter and the Met Office.

🎨 Create: we’re launching a bilingual anthology of new climate stories at COP31, inspired by Türkiye’s café culture.

🤝 Connect: we’re supporting 263 young climate negotiators from 79 countries, and helping some of them get to COP31.

What does it mean to belong?

Through painting, sound and architectural intervention, Lubaina Himid’s Predicting History: Testing Translation invites us to think about the spaces we move through every day and the stories they hold.

The figures within her work are not simply observed – they are active participants, negotiating the spaces they occupy.

Climate action starts with people. 🌱

Climate is a priority in our 2030 Strategy, and for us it’s about real people doing real work. Through The Climate Connection programme, over the past two years we have:

📚 trained more than 3,000 teachers to bring climate into their classrooms
🎨 mobilised over £11 million for cultural heritage
🤝 supported more than 43,000 young people, with over 26,000 now leading action in their own communities

We hold ourselves to the same standard. We’ve cut our own carbon emissions by 63% since 2017 baseline, almost double our 33% target.

Next month we take this work to COY21 (Conference of Youth) and COP31 (Conference of the Parties) in Antalya, Türkiye, with partners in Türkiye, Australia, the Pacific and around the world. Watch the video to see the story so far and read our full programme by the link 👉 https://ow.ly/6cRa5101BN3

"Only English, please." It's a phrase most English teachers have used. But does it actually reflect what immersion really means?

In her Voices Magazine article, teacher and trainer Huma Hasna Riaz Ahmed unpacks a common assumption in language teaching: that immersion means English-only. Drawing on research into bilingual education and her own classroom experience, she makes the case for a more flexible, "plurilingual" approach, one where English remains central, but learners' own languages are used as a resource rather than a roadblock.

Are we immersing learners in English, or isolating them from the very languages that could help immersion work? Read the full article to find out.

Is 'English-only' really the same as immersion? Huma Hasna Riaz Ahmed reflects on how a widely accepted practice in ELT may be oversimplifying a more complex reality.
