Canada has a strong and longstanding relationship with Haiti and Haitians.

The Canadian government, through several departments and agencies, has been an important partner in Haiti for decades now. In addition, several Canadian provinces, municipalities, non-governmental organizations and individuals work with Haitians to respond to the country's needs. Finally, Canada is strengthened by the skills and culture of the many Haitians who call our country home.

During his tour of the South last week, Canada’s Ambassador to Haiti visited the Transit and Orientation Centers of the PREJEUNES project (Preventing Child Recruitment and Supporting Reintegration in Haiti). This project is the result of a partnership between to help children formerly recruited into armed gangs reintegrate into society.

The management of Transit and Orientation Centers (TOCs) is a component of the broader PREJEUNES project and provides medical care, psychosocial support, family tracing, reunification, and stabilization for children who have left armed groups. The children will be entitled to a safe transition and reintegration into family or community environments. Finally, the children are directed toward education or vocational training with a view to long-term reintegration into society.

Canada is proud to have contributed to the implementation of this project, thereby demonstrating its confidence in Haiti’s youth.
