• (EN) The LITTLE PRINCESS STATUE, (Story)
The original 50 cm statuette of the Little Princess (Kiskirálylány) statue sitting on the railings of the Danube promenade in Budapest, Hungary was created by LÁSZLÓ MARTON (1925–2008) Munkácsy- and Kossuth Prize-winning sculptor in 1972.
The artist was inspired by his eldest daughter (Évike') born from his first marriage. She often played in the Tabán wearing a princess costume and a crown made out of newspaper by her father, and at home as well, pretending her bathrobes were a mantle. This image prompted her father, the artist in the creation of this little statue.
László Marton writes: "Évike born from my first marriage, at the age of 5, was playing in a little princess costume in the Tabán playground. When I saw it, I immediately had the subject matter. Titled "Little Princess" I sculpted it as well. It was placed in an elegant location on the Danube promenade. Became a symbol of Budapest."
"I modeled it after my own daughter– says László Marton in his studio (2007) – she was maybe six years old and playing in the garden. She dressed as a princess: laid a bathrobe on her shoulders and put a crown on her head. I managed to capture this moment and immediately felt that this was a successful work of art. Years later, the capital requested a statue from me. I immediately thought of the "Little Princess" and luckily we managed to find the place where the statue feels good."
A larger size copy of this statue was placed on the Danube promenade in 1990, and a second copy in Tapolca, the artist's hometown. A copy of the same statue stands in Japan too – donated by the artist – in front of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space cultural center's concert hall.
The original statuette (1972) is owned by Hungarian National Gallery.

• (DE) DIE KLEINE PRINZESSIN STATUE, (Story)
Das Original der auf dem Geländer der Budapester Donaupromenade sitzenden Statue "Kleine Prinzessin" fertigte 1972, der mit dem Munkácsy- und Kossuth-Preis ausgezeichnete Bildhauer LÁSZLÓ MARTON (1925 - 2008) in Form einer 50 cm großen Kleinplastik an.
Die aus erster Ehe stammende, älteste Tochter des Künstlers (Évike’) inspirierte ihn dazu. Oft spielte sie in Tabán (Budapester Parkanlage) oder auch zu Hause im Kostüm einer Prinzessin, mit der vom Vater angefertigten Krone aus Zeitungspapier auf dem Kopf und einem Bademantel, der als Robe diente. Dieses Bild veranlaßte den Vater, den Künstler zur Schaffung der kleinen Statuette.
Marton László beschreibt es so: "Die aus erster Ehe geborene Évi, die mit 5 Jahren im (Évike’) Prinzessinnenkostüm auf dem Tabáner Kinderspielplatz spielte. Als ich das sah, hatte ich sofort das Thema. Mit dem Titel " Kleine Prinzessin" modellierte ich sie. An einem eleganten Platz, an der Donaupromenade bekam sie einen Platz. Sie wurde zu einem Symbol der Stadt Budapest." ( Auszug aus dem autobiografischen Buch "Marton László: Életutam" - "László Marton: Mein Lebensweg")
" Nach meiner eigenen Tochter habe ich sie modelliert - erzählt László Marton in seinem Atelier (2007) - , sie war vielleicht etwa 6 Jahre alt und spielte als Prinzessin verkleidet im Garten. Die Schultern von einem Bademantel bedeckt und mit einer auf den Kopf gesetzten Krone. Mir gelang es, diesen Moment einzufangen und sofort spürte ich, dass es ein gut gelungenes Werk war. Jahre später bestellte die Hauptstadt eine Statue von mir. Sofort dachte ich an die Kleine Prinzessin und zum Glück gelang es uns, diesen Platz für sie zu finden, wo sich die Statue wohl fühlt."
Die größere Ausführung der Statue kam 1990 an die Donaupromenade und deren Zweitausführung nach Tapolca, der Geburtsstadt des Künstlers. Eine Kopie dieser Statue steht auch in Japan - eine Spende des Künstlers - , vor dem Konzertsaal des kulturellen Zentrums des Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space. Das Original der Kleinplastik (1972) ist im Besitz der Magyar Nemzeti Galéria (Ungarische Nationalgalerie).

Így ír erről Marton László: „Első házasságomból született Évike, aki 5 éves korában, kiskirálylány jelmezben játszott a tabáni játszótéren. Ahogy ezt láttam, rögtön megvolt a téma. Kiskirálylány címen meg is mintáztam. Egy elegáns helyen, a Duna-korzón helyezték el. Budapest szimbóluma lett.” (részlet Marton László Életutam című önéletrajzi könyvéből.)
„A saját lányomról mintáztam – meséli Marton László a műtermében (2007) –, lehetett talán hatéves és a kertben játszott. Királylánynak öltözött: egy fürdőköpenyt terített a vállára, koronát tett a fejére. Sikerült elkapnom ezt a pillanatot és rögtön éreztem, hogy ez egy jól sikerült az alkotás. Évekkel később a főváros egy szobrot kért tőlem. Azonnal a Kiskirálylányra gondoltam és szerencsére sikerült megtalálnunk neki azt a helyet, ahol jól érzi magát a szobor.”
E szobor nagyobb méretben 1990-ben került a Duna-korzóra, és másodpéldánya Tapolcára, a művész szülővárosába. Ugyanezen szobor másolata áll még Japánban is - a művész adományaként -, a Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space kulturális központ koncertterme előtt is. Az eredeti kisplasztika (1972) a Magyar Nemzeti Galéria tulajdona.
