📰🎉 AmCham in the news: We’re excited to see our President, Ákos Janza featured in the latest issue of the BBJ - Budapest Business Journal!
He shares his thoughts on leading AmCham, how the Chamber can be a key partner in tackling current challenges and building a more competitive environment, and why digitalisation and AI are key to unlocking Hungary’s economic potential.

🗂️Don’t miss this conversation, learn more about what’s driving AmCham’s agenda.⬇️

In his first interview with the BBJ since becoming president of AmCham Hungary late last year, Ákos Janza discusses what has surprised him, why the chamber matters, and his passionate belief in what AI and digitization can do for the country’s economy.

Elsewhere in our USA Country Focus, Miklós Sánta, partner and leader of international tax and transaction services at EY Hungary, ponders what the next step might be for the EU after the House of Representatives passed the draft One Big Beautiful Bill Act, U.S. President Donald Trump’s combative response to the Global Minimum Tax, amongst other things. We also report on a joint strategic healthcare event hosted by American multinational biopharma firm Bristol Myers Squibb and the U.S. Embassy in Budapest.

In our Business section, Tamás Vékási, country managing partner, EY Hungary and Csaba Horváth, partner at EY-Parthenon, discuss the latest EY Barometer Survey, which finds that Hungarian companies are focusing on stability while preparing for growth. Meanwhile, Dávid Németh, chief analyst at K&H Bank, presents its latest economic outlook, which suggests that Hungary will face another year of subdued economic growth before prospects might improve in 2026.

In the News section, we feature an in-depth interview with Romania’s Ambassador to Hungary, Gabriel Şopandă. As his term in office nears its conclusion, he sat down with the BBJ to discuss his time here and the state of bilateral relations between the neighboring countries. Meanwhile, our Macroscope column reflects on the pessimistic economic forecast published by the National Bank of Hungary, as its Monetary Council kept the base rate on hold at 6.5%, the ninth consecutive time the central bank has left the base rate unchanged.

In our Special Report, we discuss wine tourism in Hungary with Gábor Bánfalvi, co-founder of the Tasting Table, and his Spanish sommelier, Samuel Fernandez Colomo. Elsewhere, Jan Kropacek, the newly appointed country manager of Air France-KLM in Hungary, says he sees rising passenger numbers and a growing appetite for premium travel options as key opportunities in a market that balances price sensitivity with high expectations. The Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest’s veteran general manager, Stephan Interthal, has just completed a five-year, EUR 30 million renovation of all 350 rooms and suites, but future plans include a six-week renovation of the ÉS restaurant and kitchens, he tells us. Serkan Hüsünbeyi, general manager of the Matild Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, discusses the changes he has made to its organizational culture, market trends, and his hopes for the future. Budapest-born luxury hotelier Attila AE Domby shares his delight at the reception the Kimpton BEM has received from travelers, his plans for this year and beyond, and his pride in making the property part of the story of this fabled city. Finally, Zsanett Oláh, managing director of National Heritage Protection and Development (NÖF) Nonprofit Kft., explains what awaits visitors at the extensively renovated Tisza Kastely in Geszt, close to the border with Romania.

In our Socialite section, we investigate the Hungarian fascination with Dubai Chocolate, cast our eye over the lineup of the 23rd VeszprémFest, which returns this and recall the BBJ Summer Sundowner held high above the Danube at the Liz & Chain Rooftop Bar of the Budapest Marriott Hotel on June 16.

All this and more can be found in the latest print issue of the Budapest Business Journal, available from select newsstands or via our webshop https://bbj.hu/shop/budapest-business-journal/
