☕🇮🇩 A proud moment for Flores coffees!

Congratulations to:
☕️Flores Bajawa Coffee
☕️Flores Manggarai Coffee
which received EU recognition as Protected Geographical Indications (PGIs) on 21 October 2026!

But what does PGI mean?

A Geographical Indication (GI) protects a product’s name and its link to a specific place. A PGI requires at least one production stage to take place in the region of origin, while a PDO requires all stages to take place in the designated area, with the product’s qualities closely tied to its geographical environment.

The Flores Bajawa and Flores Manggarai arabica coffees join other Indonesian products recognised by the EU for their geographical origin:
🧂Amed Bali Salt (PDO)
☕️ Gayo Arabica Coffee (PGI)
🧂Muntok White Pepper (PDO)
🥥 Kulonprogo Coconut Sugar (PDO)

Why do you need a Schengen visa to enter the EU? And when did the Schengen Area begin? 👀🇪🇺

If you have ever planned a trip to Europe, you have probably heard of the Schengen visa. But here is something many people may not know:

The EU and the Schengen Area are not the same thing.

The Schengen Area is a group of 29 European countries where internal border controls have been removed, allowing people to travel between participating countries without routine border checks.

The idea began in 1985, when France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg signed the Schengen Agreement. The Schengen Convention followed in 1990 and came into force in 1995. Today, the area has grown to 29 countries.

For eligible non-EU travellers, the Schengen visa provides access to the Schengen Area for short stays, generally for up to 90 days within any 180-day period, depending on the conditions of the visa.

So remember:

🇪🇺 EU ≠ 🛂 Schengen Area ≠ 🌍 Europe
