Meet the third and final line-up of trainers for the ASEAN-IPR Course on Preventing Violent Radicalisation among the Youth, coming this October:

🔹 Dr. Malkanthi Hettiarachchi — Chartered Clinical Psychologist and Counterterrorism Researcher and Profiler (PhD, Macquarie University). With extensive field experience across the Philippines, Indonesia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Libya, and beyond, Dr. Malkanthi specialises in deradicalisation, rehabilitation, and psychosocial skills — bringing a rare, ground-level expertise to the Course.

🔹 Mr. Agus Nahrowi — Learning & Development Manager at Earthworm Foundation Indonesia and a conflict transformation practitioner with nearly two decades of experience. Gusrowi brings expertise in facilitation, mediation, negotiation, collaborative leadership, and multi-stakeholder engagement across Southeast Asia and beyond.

🔹 Ms. Nur Mawaddah — Director of the Urban Cyfluence Lab at Cyfluence Research Center (CRC) and incoming PhD researcher at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE). Her work explores how digital environments, public perceptions, and physical dynamics interact to shape governance, institutional trust, and societal resilience.

Dialogue is not only something we talk about, it is something we can experience and bring into our everyday lives.

On the side lines of the ASEAN Peace Education High-Level Conference in Manila on 23 September 2026, ASEAN-IPR supported our partner The International Dialogue Centre — KAICIID in highlighting interreligious and intercultural dialogue (IRD & ICD) as an approach to peacebuilding.

Moderated by KAICIID's Head of Programmes, Ms. Vera Ferreira, the session offered participants with practical examples of how dialogue can foster understanding and constructive engagement across differences. The talk show format presented KAICIID Fellows from Southeast Asia a platform to share their experiences and ongoing initiatives on IRD & ICD.

ASEAN-IPR introduced its mandate and functions, including various initiatives on IRD & ICD, with focus on its partnership with KAICIID to develop a Training Module on IRD & ICD — tailored for the context and needs of the Southeast Asian region.

The session also underscored relevance and importance of partnership and networking — whether on peacebuilding, as well as on transformative dialogue.

Climate impacts increasingly exacerbate challenges faced by vulnerable communities, highlighting the growing relevance of the climate–security nexus across the region.

Together with the Sunway Centre for Planetary Health, and with the generous support of the Government of Malaysia and Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), ASEAN-IPR is working to advance the regional conversation on Climate, Peace and Security (CPS) ahead of our upcoming “Seminar and Workshop on Preparing the Future Communities to Face Climate-Related Security Risk.”

ASEAN-IPR welcomed a delegation from the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) for a courtesy meeting.

The visit provided a platform for both ASEAN-IPR and the GCERF to share their respective work, as well as explore potential areas for collaboration between the two particularly on the issue of Composite Violent Extremism (CoVE).

To mark the International Day of Peace, we asked our colleague at the ASEAN-IPR Secretariat to complete one simple question: “What do you think peace is…?”

Is it understanding? Respect? Safety? Dialogue? Or something else?

Their answers remind us that peace can mean different things to different people, while reflecting a shared hope for a more peaceful world.

On this important day, ASEAN-IPR reaffirms its commitment to “Forging and Fostering Peace.” Peacebuilding is at the heart of our mission and guides our work to promote dialogue, understanding, and reconciliation across the region and beyond.

The Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) has remained an important instrument for promoting peace, mutual respect, dialogue, and cooperation since its adoption in 1976.

To commemorate the TAC’s 50th Anniversary this year, we continue to ask ASEAN citizens why the principles of the Treaty remain relevant today for the region. From peace and friendship among nations to dialogue, mutual respect, and cooperation, their perspectives highlight the continued importance of these principles in the region and beyond.
