ASEAN-IPR and CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation concluded Module Zero of the Introductory Training on Conflict Analysis and Conflict Resolution on 29 May 2026.

The session served as an important introduction to the Training Programme, featuring discussions on regional and global peace mechanisms, as well as preparations for the upcoming in-person training on 3 - 5 June 2026.

Key highlights of the online session included presentations and Q&A session with Ms. Thao Thi Thanh Nguyen of the ASEAN Secretariat, Dr. Janne Taalas, CEO of CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation, and H.E. Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik, State Secretary of the Kingdom of Norway.

This initiative is also supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A quick look back at last year’s ASEAN-IPR & CMI Training on Conflict Analysis and Conflict Resolution!

The Training strengthened participants’ ability to identify root causes and drivers of conflict, various approaches to peace-making and technical skills in negotiation and peace facilitation.

Yesterday, we welcomed back UN Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) for the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, Khaled Khiari to Jakarta and to the ASEAN-IPR Secretariat.

The ED and ASEAN-IPR Team exchanged with the ASG on continuing the Institute’s partnership with UN-DPPA, following substantive collaborations on issues such as climate, peace and security (CPS), youth, peace and security (YPS), peacebuilding, conflict management, and many others. The ASEAN-IPR Team also updated the ASG on various initiatives of the Institute in the pipeline, which would complement the work of UN-DPPA in the region.

The ASEAN Entities Forum commemorated its first decade on 12-13 May 2026, marking an important milestone in strengthening collaboration among ASEAN bodies, centres and entities.

ASEAN-IPR participated and contributed in the main and side events of the 10th ASEAN Entities Forum - as resource, mentors and sharing best practices/lessons learned in the work of the Institute as well as its many collaboration with stakeholders.

The Forum continues to serve as a valuable platform for fostering dialogue, building trust, and advancing shared efforts towards a more cohesive and resilient ASEAN Community.

On 29 April 2026, the ASEAN-IPR Secretariat welcomed delegations from the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (WPS), including Ambassador Melanne Verveer, along with 11 WPS ambassadors.

The visit featured a presentation by ASEAN-IPR on its work and contributions to ASEAN’s community-building efforts, particularly in advancing the WPS agenda. The two parties dialogued on best practices and challenges in advancing the WPS agenda in the region, as well as explore possible pathways for future collaboration.
